The Role

We are looking for an Engineering Manager to manage and support a growing, fully-remote team of software engineers. The ideal candidate will have a strong technical foundation and track record of managing effective teams that collaborate across disciplines. You'll influence technical decision-making and drive execution while managing outstanding engineers in a dynamic, startup environment. At varying times this will involve creating a vision and influencing the technical strategy ensuring the highest level of execution quality.

As an early hire, you will also play a pivotal role in building our team and culture, fostering a collaborative environment, hiring and assessing engineering candidates.

Key Responsibilities

  • Build, manage and support a growing, fully-remote team of software engineers
  • Develop a supportive, hypothesis-driven team culture that fosters open communication and collaboration
  • Improve your team’s productivity by refining and creating processes to increase efficiency
  • Provide technical coaching with regular reviews of architecture, designs, and code reviews
  • Conduct performance reviews, provide mentorship and career growth opportunities, and ensure compliance with company policies (e.g. InfoSec)
  • Hire, onboard and train new software engineers on our best practices, culture and policies
  • Collaborate with Product and other Engineering Managers on our roadmap and priorities, communicating concerns early on so that deliverables are met
  • Communicate our roadmap clearly to your team and and encourage active participation in all phases of our product and software development lifecycle  

Requirements

  • 8+ years of technical industry experience
  • 2+ years experience managing high-output engineering teams
  • 2+ years experience in cloud-native environments (AWS, GCP, Azure)
  • You should be comfortable reading and performing simple tasks using all our target languages (Typescript, Javascript, ANSI-SQL, Python and Go)
  • Proven track record of building and shipping high-quality products, defining OKRs, balancing priorities and managing teams to successful completion of projects
  • Experience working in startups or high-growth companies 
  • Ability to manage a remote-first team spanning countries, cultures and time zones
  • Demonstrated skill as an effective mentor who is passionate about integrating a team of exceptional junior, senior and principal engineers
  • Exceptional analytical, communication and interpersonal skills
  • You’ll need to be available for meetings from 16:00-18:00 UK / 17:00-19:00 Central Europe/ 11:00-13:00 Eastern Time
  • Please note: we are only hiring in North America (east coast), and (most of) South America 

Compensation

  • US Salary Range: $170-190K
  • Outside the US salaries are adjusted to account for differences in payroll taxes, cost of providing benefits, and foreign exchange risk
  • We also offer competitive equity compensation
