ABOUT THE ROLE:

Lead a team of legal professionals to effectively plan, execute and implement all product initiatives and technological features in our fast growing fintech company, as we empower small businesses in the USA by providing them with financial services designed for them. In addition, the team will manage and implement the company’s regulatory and public policy strategy. The role will also serve as the lead counsel in the company’s internal business units.  

 

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

  1. Provide strategic legal and regulatory guidance and compliance advice to business teams, including product, marketing, finance, risk and operations
  2. Lead and mentor a team of Legal professionals in Product, Marketing and Public Policy work
  3. Advise the Company Business Units’ Leadership on all legal and regulatory considerations 
  4. Shape legal and regulatory frameworks and foster responsible innovation to enhance our small business customer access to banking products, bill pay services and capital
  5. Manage all legal aspects of new product planning, execution and implementation while collaborating with internal and external partner and ensuring compliance 
  6. Lead and plan Bluevine’s regulatory and public policy strategy 
  7. Monitor and analyse legal and regulatory developments and industry trends
  8. Manage relationships with outside counsel and industry trade associations
  9. Manage legal relationships with the company's strategic partners. 

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ATTRIBUTES

Essential

  1. Bachelors and a J.D. degree required
  2. 12 years of relevant legal experience, with a mix of big law firm and in-house experience required
  3. Active member of the NY or CA state bar in good standing required
  4. Experience working with Product and Technology teams  
  5. Self-assured and energetic with a dynamic leading  personality 
  6. Ability to inspire the confidence of your team, management, colleagues, and other stakeholders
  7. Experienced in managing and training a legal team
  8. Excellent drafting, analytical, and communication skills
  9. Passion for supporting the small business community and enable their growth 
  10. Familiar with the regulatory space of lending, licensing, UDAPP, TCPA and banking regulation

 

Desirable:

  1. Banking or Financial Technology background is strongly preferred
  2. Experience working with Trade Associations preferred
