We are looking for a well-rounded Principal UX designer to lead the user experience of BlackSky's Spectra Platform to order, transform, analyze and deliver imagery and machine learning analytics from our on-demand constellation of satellites. You will define, articulate, and deliver innovative design solutions in a data-dense, complex space. You will be responsible for developing a deep understanding of the user journeys, identifying pain points, and transforming those insights into actionable UX design initiatives. You will use your stellar communication skills to present designs to a range of different stakeholders - from UX teammates to leadership. You will work closely with front and backend engineers, customer success representatives and product management to meticulously execute ideas into production.

While the locations listed in the job posting are ideal, we would love candidates near either our Herndon, VA or Seattle, WA offices. We may also consider remote candidates in certain states.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead design projects through all phases - from user research and exploratory prototypes to wireframes and polished mockups to final design review, delivery, and usability testing
  • Partner with an interdisciplinary team of developers, product managers, and data scientists to drive features from concept to implementation for satellite imagery tasking and imagery analysis scenarios.
  • Own the design process by independently defining requirements, scoping projects and prioritizing tasks.
  • Evaluate the usability of features and make constructive suggestions for improvements.
  • Mentor other designers.
  • Other job-related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

  • Minimum of seven years of professional experience as a UX Designer for a SaaS product.
  • Degree in HCI, Human Factors, Design, Computer Science / Engineering field or equivalent professional experience
  • Portfolio of work that includes end-to-end designs from concept to finish demonstrating design rationale and business impact.
  • Proven experience in creating low to high-fidelity experiences with standard design tools, such as Figma.
  • Familiarity with responsive designs and MUI design library
  • Understanding of front-end technologies (HTML/CSS/JS/React) to help inform design and interaction decisions
  • Experience with complex data-rich applications.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with map-centric designs
  • Experience with a AI or ML-based data
  • Experience with agile/scrum
