As the Principal Product Manager, Data Platform, you will play a critical leadership role in defining the strategy and execution of a world-class data platform that supports a diverse portfolio of SaaS products. This platform will be the foundation upon which product teams build data-driven solutions, ensuring scalability, reliability, and performance. The role focuses on creating and managing a platform that can support (1st)internal and (2nd)external customers, providing seamless access to the data tools and infrastructure needed to build, manage, scale, and extend SaaS products.

Data Platform Strategy & Vision:

  • Define and lead the overall product strategy for the data platform, ensuring it aligns with business goals, user needs, and the broader technology landscape.
  • Create a compelling product vision for the data platform that supports scalability, data governance, security, and interoperability across various SaaS products.
  • Serve as the chief advocate for the data platform, driving alignment with senior leadership, engineering teams, and product management for SaaS products.

Roadmap Development & Execution:

  • Develop and maintain a prioritized product roadmap, working with cross-functional stakeholders to ensure alignment on objectives and timelines.
  • Manage the full product lifecycle for the data platform, from ideation to sunset, balancing strategic initiatives with tactical product improvements.
  • Ensure timely delivery of platform features and enhancements by collaborating with engineering, design, and operations teams, while balancing technical feasibility, user needs, and business value.

Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement:

  • Collaborate closely with product managers from different SaaS product teams to understand their data needs and ensure the platform meets those requirements.
  • Partner with engineering leaders to drive platform reliability, scalability, and performance while also reducing technical debt.
  • Serve as the main point of contact for internal teams (data science, analytics, product, engineering) and external stakeholders (customers, partners) who rely on the platform.

Data Governance & Compliance:

  • Own and lead data governance initiatives within the platform, ensuring compliance with industry regulations (e.g., GDPR, HIPAA) and company security policies.
  • Define, monitor, and improve processes around data privacy, security, and access control in collaboration with legal, compliance, and security teams.

Metrics & Performance Management:

  • Define and track key performance indicators (KPIs) and success metrics for the data platform, ensuring it supports the performance and availability needs of SaaS products.
  • Continuously gather feedback from internal and external users to improve platform functionality and user experience.
  • Conduct A/B testing, and data-driven experiments to assess the effectiveness of platform features.

Thought Leadership & Mentorship:

  • Stay up to date with industry trends in data platforms, cloud infrastructure, SaaS, and emerging technologies, sharing insights across the organization.
  • Mentor and support junior product managers within the platform product team, providing guidance on product development best practices.
  • Lead cross-functional teams in driving platform-wide initiatives that contribute to the overall success of the business.

If you have some or all of the following, please apply:

  • 5+ years of product management experience with a focus on data platforms, SaaS platforms, or related areas.
  • Proven experience in leading large-scale data infrastructure or platform products in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong technical background with a solid understanding of data architecture, data engineering, and cloud infrastructure (e.g., AWS, GCP, Azure).
  • Experience working closely with engineering teams on platform infrastructure, microservices, APIs, and data processing pipelines.
  • Deep understanding of data governance, privacy regulations (GDPR, CCPA), and compliance standards.
  • Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills, with the ability to translate technical concepts into business value.
  • Experience with product analytics, A/B testing, and user research methodologies to drive data-informed decision-making.
  • Strong business acumen, with the ability to balance short-term wins with long-term strategic initiatives.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Business, or related field (or equivalent work experience); MBA or other advanced degrees are a plus.

Preferred Experience

  • Hands-on experience with modern data infrastructure tools like Snowflake, Redshift, Databricks, Kafka, or similar technologies.
  • Experience building platforms that support machine learning, data analytics, and business intelligence workflows.
  • Knowledge of multi-tenant SaaS architectures and experience managing products that serve both internal teams and external customers.

At BetterUp, we compensate our employees fairly for their work. Base salary is determined by job-related experience, education/training, residence location, as well as market indicators. The range below is representative of base salary only and does not include equity, sales bonus plans (when applicable) and benefits. This range may be modified in the future.

The base salary range for this role is $211,000 – $364,000.

$242,000 – $364,000: New York City
$211,000 – $316,000: Albany, Buffalo, Rochester, Nassau, Newburgh, Syracuse
