BetterUp’s Privacy & Compliance Office is a small but diverse group of privacy and legal professionals passionate about providing transparency and control to our members, and dedicated to providing a world-class privacy experience to both members and employees. Reporting to the Head of Legal & Privacy, as Privacy and Product Counsel, you will help guide cross-functional teams on privacy and product issues and help support our customer trust-centered Go-To-Market teams. The Privacy & Compliance Office works as a collaborative team in a fast-paced environment where a sense of humor, bias toward action, and creativity are the cornerstones of daily life.
What you’ll do:
- Provide strategic advice to address privacy and security risks while supporting customer focus and business growth;
- Advise on a range of compliance issues, regulations and industry standards with a focus on privacy, consumer protection, and intellectual property;
- Review and draft a variety of agreements related to privacy including vendor and customer agreements;
- Engage with customer privacy and security teams as needed;
- Provide proactive and creative legal guidance to facilitate launch of new and innovative products and services while ensuring all privacy and data protection risks are properly mitigated;
- Support product and advertising operations while balancing user and policy considerations;
- Collaborate cross-functionally with key stakeholders including Engineering, Product, Finance, and Marketing as needed.
If you have some or all of the following, please apply:
- 5+ years work experience as a licensed attorney advising on global privacy and product matters;
- In-house and start-up experience required;
- An interest or experience in the wellness space and an eagerness to create thoughtful and creative solutions;
- JD with active membership of a State Bar;
- Strong understanding of technology and law, with emphasis in cloud industry technologies, IaaS, PaaS, and SaaS;
- CIPP/US, CIPP/E, and/or CIPM certifications strongly preferred
- Experience with the ISO 27018, 27701 certification process and program management preferred

At BetterUp, we compensate our employees fairly for their work. Base salary is determined by job-related experience, education/training, residence location, as well as market indicators. The range below is representative of base salary only and does not include equity, sales bonus plans (when applicable) and benefits. This range may be modified in the future.
The base salary range for this role is $156,950 – $266,500
If you live in New York, the base salary range for this role is:
$177,650 – $266,500: New York City
$167,250 – $250,900: Nassau, Newburgh
$156,950 – $235,450: Albany, Buffalo, Rochester, Syracuse
