This role in a nutshell: 

The Better Place Forest Steward will initially work directly with our Forest Operations Manager and our growing Forest Steward team across the Western States. This remarkably rewarding position will allow you to spend a significant amount of time in a stunning, high-altitude, Ponderosa Pine and Quaking Aspen forest in the mountains North of Flagstaff. Every day you have the opportunity to make a genuinely positive impact on other people and the planet. Responsibilities include:

  • Deliver an unforgettable experience that has a positive effect on our customers and their families
  • Exercise independent judgment in developing methods, techniques, and criteria for achieving objectives
  • Manage customer forest visits, help families choose their tree and participate in memorial ceremonies
  • Provide a consultative experience to help customers process the various emotions that can come up when selecting their final resting place
  • Work closely with our team in San Francisco in an autonomous setting to coordinate forest operations 
  • Provide a consistent, empathetic, and professional in-forest experience for our customers
  • Understand and communicate detailed tree, forest, company, and services information to customers
  • Walk customers through their contract and billing details, and close sales in the forest
  • Communicate with customers to resolve inquiries promptly, respectfully, and efficiently
  • Work across teams to deliver the highest level of customer satisfaction
  • Facilitate maintenance tasks around our forest and visitor centers such as tree limbing, removing slash, building trails and general upkeep of the future visitor center

About You:

  • You’re passionate about high-quality customer interactions that make a real difference in peoples’ lives
  • You have pre-existing knowledge of the local geography and/or ability to learn details quickly
  • You have the ability to learn and communicate detailed knowledge of our trees and plant species
  • You are skilled in using online tools and devices while on the move
  • You are thoughtful and considerate in communicating via email, phone, text, and in-person
  • You are excited to work outdoors while walking on uneven natural terrain for long periods of time
  • You love working collaboratively with a team
  • You’re deeply empathetic and can put yourself in the shoes of our customers
  • You are sensitive to physical limitations and disabilities, and able to demonstrate patience and compassion
  • You are comfortable navigating nuanced and sometimes delicate conversations around mortality
  • You are comfortable assisting individuals making large financial commitments & the objections that may come with that

Skills & Tools

  • Technical and analytical skills to master online tools
  • Adept at using Apple devices, including Mac OS and iOS applications
  • Excellent ability to influence, build consensus, and resolve conflicts
  • Skilled in high-end retail sales operations and people management
