We are seeking a driven, results-oriented Fullstack Staff Engineer, reporting directly to the VP of Engineering of Customer Experience to define the future of Better’s web architecture, long-term technical vision, and technical roadmap. You will be among a handful of the company’s most senior engineers who will influence the technology and architecture across our entire organization. The homeownership and mortgage process is highly complex and we are building elegant solutions to simplify the experience for our customers. About you:

  • You have 7+ years of experience in coding in at least one modern language such as Javascript, Typescript, Python, Java, Go.
  • You have built robust web applications and are familiar with different architectures and their trade-offs.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to effectively manage up, down and cross functionally.
  • Experience in collaborating with other engineering leaders to achieve a common goal.
  • You can easily take an ambiguous problem and create a phased strategy to address it.
  • You can identify and distinguish between local and system problems to correctly recommend strategies that have a global vs. local optimization impact.
  • You have built sophisticated production software systems that are reliable, stable and observable.
  • Demonstrated ability to mentor and develop other engineers.
  • Experience defining system architecture(s) and exploring technical feasibility tradeoffs and capabilities.
  • Startup attitude, ownership, and the right balance of quality and sense of urgency.

Better technology:

  • We continuously ship code to production 50-100 times every day
  • Services written in Node.js, Python and Go that expose APIs using GraphQL or OpenAPI
  • React, CSS in JS, Apollo/GraphQL, webpack, SCSS, Ember.js on the frontend
  • TypeScript / ES7 across the stack
  • Postgres for our relational databases, ActiveMQ for our message broker, Redis for caching, Redshift for analytics
  • Kubernetes, Docker, and Terraform for deployment and devops
  • AWS infrastructure, using EC2, S3, CloudFront, Route53, and much more
