Our Leadership Development Coaches are full-time staff members based from home offices anywhere in the United States. Frequent travel of about 30 - 40% is required along with occasional evening and weekend work. In all, BES has trained more than 2,700 leaders to found, lead, and grow schools through its leadership development offerings.

 

About the Position 

Our Leadership Development Coaches support both our Leadership Development and New Schools teams. On our New Schools Team, coaches support leaders to design and found schools around the country, through our Fellowship programs. On our Leadership Development team, coaches support participants across leadership development programs to build their leadership capacity to either persist in their current role, or advance into a heightened leadership role. 

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Coach Leaders: Support participants across leadership development programs and/or our Fellowship to build their leadership capacity and/or design and found equitable and anti-racist schools that lead to strong academic outcomes for all learners. Support and evaluate Leaders’ progress towards BES’s leadership competencies through regular coaching meetings and review of artifacts . Conduct in-person and virtual visits and provide coaching to Leaders. 

  • Design and Lead Training: Design and lead impactful Fellowship and/or leadership development training sessions in the areas of School Design, School Finance and Operations, Organizational Leadership, Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion, etc; facilitate Fellow and Leader engagement throughout the session, to achieve established session objectives.

  • School Design Plan/ Application Support for Fellows: Provide high-quality feedback and support to Fellows throughout their charter application process, including writing support and guidance in navigating the authorization process and building a governance board. This includes coaching Fellows and members of the Founding Team to prepare them for the Authorizer Interview. 

  • Program Operations: Develop vision, strategy, and long-term plans for operations and efficiencies across programs, including sustainable financial stewardship of a school and/or network. For programs that require enrollment, manage enrollment and onboarding processes for program participants by designing and managing execution plans with input from the department chief. For programs that require selection, participate on the selection committee and evaluate candidates in accordance with the selection criteria and make recommendations to the selection committee. 

 

Skills and, Experiences, and Competencies: 

  • School Leadership and/or Managing School Leaders: Has 5+ years’ experience in school leadership and/or managing school leaders. Has led an academically successful school serving students in and from low-income communities, and/or has managed school leaders in this setting. Has also achieved results in the areas of SEL, character education, or broader student outcomes.

  • Proven Leader in Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion: Has a track record of managing diverse teams to ambitious goals and has a vision for an equitable and excellent school experience for students and families from the most marginalized communities. Has a track record of making commitments to diversity, equity, and inclusion practical, tangible, and results-oriented.

  • Leadership of School Growth, Replication, or Mergers: Has led efforts to ensure successful school growth, replication, or mergers and understands the impact of these efforts on academics, finances, community engagement, and local politics.

  • Organizational Leadership: Has led or significantly contributed to the fiscal and operational health of a non-profit organization. 

  • Authorization Experience (preferred): Has led or contributed significantly to successful authorization and understands the nuanced stages of school authorization and/or renewal processes.

 

Compensation:

BES offers a competitive salary and benefits package, which includes medical and dental coverage, a 401(k) contribution match, paid time off, paid parental leave, and the ability to work remotely. 

The 2024-25 salary range for Director I level positions at BES is:

  • Minimum: $106,316
  • Maximum: $120,825

 

The 2024-25 salary range for this Senior Director I positions at BES is:

  • Minimum: $136,959
  • Maximum: $155,650
