Department Overview
Benson Hill’s Field Operations team focuses on the development and efficient collection of data and seed for the success of the Benson Hill Yellow Pea and Soybean pipelines. The Field Operations team is the generator of data to feed CropOs for successful variety development and delivers high quality seed to the Commercial teams to execute delivery of superior Ingredient products. The Field Operations team focuses on efficiency and quality to ensure that work-life balance is maintained, safety of all employees is achieved, seed quality is of the highest standards and data is powerful.
Position Summary
The Operations Associate supports all aspects of indoor and outdoor growing activities under the direct supervision of the Senior Operations Manager who is centrally located at our STL headquarters. During the field season, activities will consist of transporting & operating equipment, planting & combine harvest of nursery & field trials, leaf tissue sampling, operating UAV’s and agronomic note collection. Operations Associate must be willing to learn, implement and innovate operational activities & protocols to collect data and log data findings in a timely manner within our proprietary database.
Counter season activities will be varied across our indoor growing and centralized seed handling programs. Operations Associate will assist with all indoor growing tasks such as automatic and manual flat/pot filling, transplanting, harvesting, drying, threshing, seed sowing, discarding, and sanitation to ensure best plant care practices are implemented. In addition, Ops Associate will participate in seed cleaning, counting, NIR scanning, treating and packaging activities.
You Will:
- Participate in seed packaging and processing
- Organize and conduct indoor and outdoor activities (including planting, scouting, crossing, spraying, harvest)
- Assist on tasks being led by other team members to achieve quality results
- Communicate efficiently and effectively within teams and across the organization
- Operate & adjust various agriculture equipment such as: planters, sprayers, combines, seed threshers, seed counters, other field & lab equipment
- Conduct maintenance inspections and activities on all equipment
- Maintains clean and organized facilities, equipment, and instruments
- Adhere to all safety and seed stewardship protocols and expectations
- Conduct projects and tasks as assigned
- Safely transport equipment and seed to internal & outlying locations
- Travel: 50% overnights, weekends, seasonal peaks
- Willing and able to work in a variety of areas (field, lab, warehouse, etc.)
You Have:
Education
- Associate degree in agriculture, logistics or other relevant degree strongly preferred.
Experience
- +2 years relevant experience
- Agriculture knowledge of practices and management
- Knowledge of precision equipment
- Experience with agricultural equipment
- Problem identification, problem solving and improvement & execution of processes
Software/Skillset
- Strong Computer skills: Microsoft Office & proprietary internal tools
- Operate small electronic equipment
- Must be able to obtain Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) & DOT Medical card upon hire.
- Obtain UAV Part 107 License upon hire
