We engineer our farms to operate as advanced manufacturing lines. As a Machinist at Beanstalk, you will be responsible for building the prototypes and eventual production machines of our industrial robotics. The machines you create will autonomously handle millions of pounds of produce. Your will use CNC Mills, lathes, welders, CNC plasma cutters, and more to build robots that work with each other to grow, process, and package fresh produce.

Day in the Life

You will design machines that move and process food. You will work at our HQ and flagship farm with on-site labs and fabrication facilities to rapidly prototype designs and build production equipment.

On a typical day, you will:

  • Work with a small team with electrical and software engineers to rapidly build prototype machines
  • Use tools such as Fusion 360 to understand designs and utilize CNC machines
  • Oversee the assembly and fabrication of machines
  • Troubleshoot and repair production systems
  • Work with and manage vendors for fabrication and procurement
  • Manage the sourcing of tools, materials, and components to ensure on-time project delivery
  • Perform or manage the fabrication, assembly, and testing of assemblies from documented designs
  • Manage the fabrication shop and ensure common consumables and stock items are always available (nuts, bolts, 3D printer filament, plate, welding rod, gases, etc.)
  • Ensure tools and machines in the fabrication shop are maintained and safe to operate
  • Help other team members advance their skills in CNC Machining, fabrication, and machine design through occasional presentations and training sessions

Opportunities

ā€œA good tool improves the way you work. A great tool improves the way you think.ā€

We will offer you the opportunities to expand your skills, including:

  • Attending conferences related to fabrication, prototyping, automation, and/or robotics
