Barkley is looking for a VP, Legal to join our growing team of 500+ employees across the US. 

This role will serve as a crucial strategic advisor within our organization, overseeing legal compliance, risk mitigation, and active participation in the broader business strategy. This role plays a pivotal part in overseeing the in-house contract team and fostering collaboration with our outside counsel. Reporting directly to our Chief Financial Officer, the VP, Legal assumes the role of the senior-most legal executive within our organization. 

Responsibilities: 

  • Formulating the strategic direction and roadmap for the legal / contract team, aligning it with the company's business objectives and growth plans.
  • Designing efficient and scalable legal management systems, processes, and protocols.
  • Ensure the company’s compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, and standards in the United States and international jurisdictions where the company operates.
  • Provide expert and strategic legal advice to management on a variety of legal topics, including contracts, litigation risks, business structure, labor laws, intellectual property, and regulatory matters.
  • Collaborating with key business leaders to develop and enhance policies and procedures.
  • Supervising the organization and maintenance of all company legal templates.
  • Standardizing and driving efficiency for the legal intake processes, encompassing forms and review and approval workflows.
  • Implement effective risk management techniques and offer proactive advice on possible legal issues.
  • Assessing, recommending, and implementing innovative technologies to enhance organizational efficiency, while strategically applying emerging technologies to advance and optimize legal practices within the organization.

Qualifications:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
  • Experience within an advertising or marketing agency preferred 
  • Current licensure to practice law in the state of Missouri, or eligibility for in-state licensure.
  • Minimum of 10 years of legal practice experience required, with a preference for a blend of law firm and in-house expertise.
  • Demonstrated strong leadership and managerial capabilities, including a successful track record of building and guiding a team of legal professionals.
  • Exceptional negotiation proficiency, coupled with hands-on experience in overseeing intricate deals and agreements.
  • Proven background in corporate governance, risk management, and compliance.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of statutes, rules, and regulations relevant to businesses, especially within advertising and marketing. 
  • Outstanding communication and interpersonal aptitude, with the ability to effectively engage with individuals at all levels of the organization and external stakeholders.
