Bardel is currently recruiting for a talented Lighting Pipeline TD to work collaboratively with our Emmy award-winning studio team. Reporting to the Lead Pipeline TD, the Lighting Pipeline TD is responsible for producing high-quality and reliable tools to help the flow of production in the Lighting department. We are looking for skilled Python programmers inside Katana, keen on the lighting workflow. 

What you’ll be doing: 

  • Develop tools to speed up the daily work of the artists on the floor. 
  • Automate tasks to improve production speed. 
  • Create functional UIs to assist the usage of the developed tools. 
  • Communicate regularly with the Lighting Supervisor and Leads to improve tools and workflow. 
  • Work with the back-end team to ensure the infrastructure works with the tools. 
  • Assist artists with troubleshooting of shots. 
  • Ensure software development follows studio policies and guidelines. 
  • Meet and maintain project deadlines consistently. 
  • Documenting and updating new and current tool workflows. 

What you’ll bring: 

  • 4+ years of experience in Animation (Preferred) division. 
  • 4+ years of experience with Katana and Renderman. 
  • Strong knowledge of Katana how Show, Sequence, Subsequence and Shot is built. 
  • Strong knowledge of Python, Katana API, Expression & Lua (OpScript). 
  • Good Troubleshooting skills with Katana and Renderman. 
  • Good knowledge of PyQt, PySide and Qt for UI development. 
  • Experience with Xgen, Yeti, USD, Renderman. 
  • Experience with Shotgun and Deadline. 
  • Experience with at least one of the source control systems. 
  • Strong knowledge on how to build Render Layers/Setup in Katana. 
  • Exceptional communication skills in dealing with both technical and artistic groups. 
  • Experience troubleshooting pipeline issues. 
  • Reliable, with good time keeping and the ability to meet deadlines. 
  • Shader Writing Ability a plus. 
  • Bachelor or master's in computer science, Engineering or equivalent is a plus. 

For bonus points: 

  • Overall knowledge of other department’s related outputs in Lighting. 
  • Strong knowledge of one or more renderers (e.g. Arnold, 3Delight, Renderman, RedShift etc.), and experience with renderer specific file formats. 
  • Shader Writing. 
  • Good understanding with studio-based asset package database system. 

 

Salary Range CAD $1,600 - $2,400 / week. The Salary Range is the span between the minimum and maximum base salary for a position. The midpoint of the range is approximately halfway between the minimum and the maximum and represents an employee that possesses full job knowledge, qualifications and experience for the position. In the normal course, employees will be hired, transferred or promoted between the minimum and midpoint of the salary range for a job.
