We are looking for a VP of Engineering, who can create, manage, and deliver an engineering strategy and roadmap at an accelerated pace with the high level of quality our customers require. In this role, you will provide strategic technical and people leadership for our Engineering, QA, and DevOps teams, with an eye toward simplicity, scalability, and successful delivery of projects from multiple teams in San Francisco and Portland. 

What you will do

  • Enable the Engineering, QA and DevOps teams to deliver outstanding value to Azlo, by ensuring operational excellence at every level.
  • Cultivate and maintain a culture of speed, quality,  collaboration, mentorship, and open feedback in a scrum team environment.
  • Recruit world-class engineering talent.
  • Balance engineering team coding, QA, and DevOps standards, balancing that with autonomy and creativity to motivate the team and foster a scalable environment.
  • Provide exceptional leadership and coaching to the engineering management team.
  • Lead an organization with a microservice architecture, Pub/Sub, event-driven updates, and functional programming.
  • Ensure the team can make sustainable technical and architectural decisions with minimal bottlenecks.
  • Work with stakeholders across the company to ensure alignment.
  • Support leaders and their teams, who are using these technologies: Node, docker, kubernetes, Angular or Vue, Immutable.js, Rxjs, git, AWS, MongoDB, Kafka queues.
  • Ensure well-defined career paths and growth opportunities for team members.

What you’ll bring

  • At least 6 years experience leading an engineering organization, preferably in fintech or another highly regulated industry.
  • Experience with inherently complex technical environments, where tradeoffs and difficult decisions frequently occur.
  • Strategic and analytical mindset that allows the prioritization of engineering investments for maximum impact.
  • Strong track record of scaling engineering teams, while providing outstanding people management support.
  • Ability to inspire a team.
  • Preference for fast-paced environments with tight feedback loops and continuous delivery.
  • Can place the needs of customers and the business above novelty.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to think and communicate creatively, thoughtfully, and proactively with diverse technical and non-technical stakeholders, across all organizational levels. 
  • Bachelor’s degree required.
