Your Impact
The Real Time Operations division at Axon is on a mission to provide the best-in-class situational awareness software to emergency responders in order to make them more effective and efficient in managing life-and-death situations. As a frontend software engineer, you will be joining a brand new team in our London R&D office that is focused on building a fast and performant real-time maps application. You will work on the critical front end systems used to direct first responders to where they are most needed, and will work with your team to improve existing systems by creating a new unified mapping component and integrating it across Axon’s Realtime systems.
You will join forces with device and back-end teams to efficiently source realtime geo-located data from devices in the field such as patrol cars, body cameras and drones. You will join forces with communications teams responsible for streaming realtime media feeds and other signals from devices. You will join forces with application, customer and third party teams to ensure our users have other data they need to make tough decisions. You will write code that efficiently brings these data feeds together on a single map, allowing our users to make better decisions, saving lives.
What You’ll Do
Location: London or Remote UK
Reports to: Software Engineering Manager
- Work as part of an agile mapping team, peered with other teams across Axon
- Develop a new Unified Mapping architecture for use across Axon’s realtime organisation
- Identify and address design flaws that impact performance and scalability.
- Aid team members with design and code reviews.
What You Bring
- 2+ years experience in web development including Typescript
- Experience with web frameworks such as React
- Knowledge of version control, application lifecycle management, security
- Good communication skills
- Knowledge of web integration technologies (Cordova or Electron)
- Knowledge of web based GIS solutions (GeoJSON, Google Maps or Leaflet)
- Knowledge of web technologies (web sockets, worker processes, PWA’s)
- Knowledge of web game engines, realtime graphics or WebGL
