We are looking for a Director of Product Management to drive our strategic, technical, and go-to-market product functions, as we build the world’s premier expedited delivery service.  Reporting to the CEO, this role collaborates with engineering, operations, sales, marketing and finance to ensure our service offerings are continually leading the market, and that our technical products meet and anticipate the future needs of both clients and internal stakeholders.  This is a hands-on position with the opportunity to build out a specialized product and user experience design team within 3 to 6 months.

As the ideal candidate, you have a demonstrated track record of delivering high quality B2B e-commerce SaaS products with an operational component.  You are passionate about user experience and simplifying the complex both online and offline.  You are an excellent communicator and an attentive observer, able to deduce needs and distill requirements from multiple constituencies.  You are skilled at balancing near-term and long-term needs to produce cohesive product roadmaps with at least a 1-2 year horizon.  You have worked with globally distributed engineering teams to design, specify, and oversee the roll-out of software products (web, mobile, and API).

The Opportunity:

  • Lead all strategic and technical product functions across the pillars of driver experience, recipient experience, client experience, and operations
  • Set a high bar for product design: simplicity, usability, consistency, look-and-feel
  • Define, refine, and prioritize our product roadmap in collaboration with engineering, our clients, and cross-functional peers in operations, finance, sales, and marketing.
  • Communicate product plans to multiple stakeholder audiences at multiple levels
  • Distill high-level product and functional requirements into concrete specifications for engineering
  • Work with engineering to schedule, build, test and and improve our software products
  • Collaborate with cross-functional peers in operations (transportation, facilities, and driver community) to roll out new product and process improvements
  • Define, instrument, and monitor product success metrics
  • Continually source internal and external feedback and incorporate it into the product development process

What You Bring to the AxleHire Team:

  • Proven experience delivering high quality software products in an e-commerce setting
  • A strong technical background and demonstrated ability to collaborate with engineering to solve complex problems
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize many competing needs among multiple internal and external stakeholders
  • Experience building and maintaining software product roadmaps with a 12-24 month horizon
  • A demonstrated data-driven approach to continuous product improvement
  • A deep understanding of the unit economics of e-commerce
  • A bias toward action and comfort with ambiguity

  • Excellent organization and communication skills
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Experience working with a globally distributed team (initially, across the USA and Vietnam)
  • Experience with agile software development
  • B.S. or M.S. in a technical or analytical discipline
  • 5+ years of employment as a technical product manager in a professional team setting
  • Must be able to collaborate in-person in our Bay Area headquarters (San Leandro) ~1-2 times per month
  • Must be legally eligible to work in the US
