Overview
Axle is seeking a highly ambitious, adaptable, structured, and detail-oriented Laboratory Technician to join our vibrant team at the National Institutes of Health (NIH), National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), Division of Intramural Research (DIR), Laboratory of Infectious Diseases (LID).
Technical Requirements:
- Assist with a wide variety of complex experimental procedures involving work with tissue/cell culture, viruses, and/or primary human samples, experience with immunological and virological techniques including neutralizing antibody assays, flow cytometry, ELISAs, RT-qPCR, western blots, and blood processing.
- Maintain cell culture lines (such as: Vero, C6/36, K562 cells).
- Collect and coordinate sample collection from the NIH Clinical Center and process samples, including preparing serum, plasma, and PBMCs.
- Assist other lab members with conducting experiments and developing SOPs for immunological and virological techniques, both working with others and independently.
- Maintain detailed physical and digital records of assays and data, including in a digital laboratory notebook and in relevant databases.
- Participate in weekly lab meetings and project-specific meetings and assist with preparing experimental data for presentations, reports, and publication.
- Provide biorepository management, including receiving, organizing, logging, distributing, and shipping specimens and reagents.
- Provide laboratory upkeep, including purchasing laboratory supplies and equipment, monitoring the inventory of lab supplies, and maintaining laboratory equipment.
- Responsible for laboratory upkeep and routine maintenance of equipment. Maintaining laboratory supplies and equipment including chemicals, biological materials, etc. required to handle biological materials, carcinogens, recombinant protein materials, acids, biological wastes, etc.
Specific Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in biological sciences is required.
- 1 year of work experience post degree in a research laboratory setting is required.
- Experience working in a BSL-2 laboratory is preferred.
- Ability to conduct high-quality experiments, including dexterity in pipetting and applying Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) principles to characterize and analyze specimens.
- Professional verbal and written communication.
- Ability and willingness to work on a team.
- Flexibility in roles depending on the nature of the projects ongoing in the laboratory.
- Willingness and ability to work flexible hours when experimental needed.
- Satisfactory US government background check and security clearance. On the job completion of required trainings including for purchasing, shipment of biological materials, and ethical requirements for clinical study protocols.
