Axle is seeking a Biological Scientist to join our vibrant team at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) supporting the National Institute on Aging (NIA) located in Bethesda, MD.

Overall Position Summary and Objectives
Deliverables:
- Meet with lab members to present updates - Monthly
- Work products related to documenting new and existing experimental protocols and results
- Daily Work products related to electronic sample management - Weekly
- Work products related to manuscript development - Ad-Hoc
Work Details:
- Independently performs laboratory equipment to prepare human patient samples for additional studies, including normalizing DNA concentrations, plating samples, measuring concentrations via Qubit, etc. 1
- Leads coordination of sample reconciliation and serves as the point of contact for clinical sites collecting and preparing patient samples 2
- Work collaboratively with other biologists and independently on clinical laboratory studies in genetics, including preparing samples for next-generation sequencing and array-based genotyping. 3
- Thoroughly track sample information in electronic spreadsheets and laboratory notebooks. 4
- Troubleshoot equipment and plan new experiments independently and in teams. 5
- Provides the technical experience needed to assist in studying the basic principles of plant and animal life.
- Address questions from sites about laboratory requirements and other lab-related questions.
- Provide reports on project status. Work with administrative and project staff to document project logistics and timelines.
- Assists with performing basic laboratory experiments and procedures.
- Prepares, organizes, and maintains various lab samples, supplies, and equipment.
- Monitor reagents and equipment and place orders and maintenance requests as needed.
- Assist in preparing presentations and manuscripts to both internal staff and external community.
- Document all experimental protocols in laboratory notebooks for replication and troubleshooting.
- Learns new laboratory techniques and procedures.
- Assists with drafting and testing new methodologies for projects and manuscripts
- Leads decision-making with sites about sample preparation and shipment logistics.
- Help implement new protocols as needed.

Minimum Education
Masters
Additional Qualifications:
- Bachelor's in biology, genetics, or related field
- Biology
- Microsoft Office Suite

- Strong Organizational Skills in both Laboratory and Record-Keeping
