As a Senior Quality Engineer, you will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to proactively identify risk, drive test strategies, and advocate for scalable quality practices.

- Shift-left testing: Actively participate in grooming, design reviews, and risk assessments to embed quality early in the development process.
- Define test strategies: Collaborate with product managers and engineers to ensure comprehensive test coverage across functional, integration, performance, and accessibility testing.
- Automation-first mindset: Design, implement, and maintain scalable automated tests, ensuring an optimal balance between automation and strategic manual testing.
- Bug and defect management: Identify, log, track, and drive resolution of defects, ensuring clear communication with stakeholders.
- Performance & observability: Leverage metrics, dashboards, and analytics to monitor product quality and proactively identify issues before they impact users.
- Continuous improvement: Contribute to quality process refinements and mentor application development engineers on testing best practices.
The details: The ideal candidate is a technical leader with a collaborative, problem-solving mindset who embodies Axios’ quality-first culture. You should have:
- 5+ years of experience in quality engineering or software testing
- Proficiency in test automation using tools like Cypress and UI component validation tools like Storybook
- Experience testing web applications in agile development environments
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to champion and articulate quality engineering principles across teams
- A commitment to fostering collaboration, embracing continuous learning, and proactively solving challenges
We’ll be even more excited if you have:
- Experience integrating AI or AI-driven tooling into quality engineering workflows, such as AI-assisted test generation, defect prediction, or automation optimization
- Strong understanding of API and unit testing, performance testing, and observability practices
- Familiarity with SEO & Accessibility testing and tools like Lighthouse, Axe, or WAVE

Starting salary for this role is in the range of $100,000 - $130,000 and is dependent on numerous factors, including but not limited to location, work experience, and skills. This range does not include other compensation and benefits. Axios' compensation philosophy takes into account cost of labor differentials across the country. Because this is a remote-optional job posting, this salary range takes into account all possible locations within the United States, but candidates will only be eligible for the salary range for their location.
