Why it matters: We’re looking for an experienced HR business partner to deeply embed within our newsroom to support employees and leaders at all levels on a forward-thinking talent strategy that bolsters our organizational goals. You’ll work closely with other HRBPs and others across the People Team to contribute to our award-winning culture.
Go deeper: In this role, you’ll make an impact on our newsroom as we continue to bring smart, audience-first journalism to audiences in new ways. This is a visible role that requires superior communication, comfort with change, and the ability to thrive in a fast-moving environment. Your primary responsibilities include:
- Build strong relationships in your client groups(s) to understand its people, business objectives, structure, strengths, and challenges.
- Provide strategic and tactical direction to managers on a wide range of talent related issues, while maintaining a pulse on engagement.
- Evaluate practices to ensure a culture of equity, inclusion, fairness, and belonging, and thoughtfully intervene when needed.
- Leverage data and insights to facilitate meaningful talent management discussions with people leaders at all levels of the organization.
- Collaborate with others across the People Team (talent acquisition, total rewards, etc.) as needed to support employees and internal processes.
- Coach organizations and leaders through change management initiatives, as needed.
- Conduct exit interviews for departing employees. Analyze data, identify trends, and make recommendations to inform our retention strategies.
- Develop strategies and recommendations to drive adoption of key talent management initiatives across the organization.
The details: Ideal candidates will embody an entrepreneurial spirit and passion for Axios’ mission and have the following skills:
- 8+ years of progressive HR/HRBP experience, with a focus on business partnership, performance management, employee relations, and change management.
- Experience working in a media/journalism environment, preferably directly supporting a newsroom.
- Knowledge of and passion for diversity, equity, and inclusion and a deep commitment to ensuring Axios is a happy, healthy place to work for employees of all backgrounds and identities
- Comfortable with navigating ambiguity with autonomy, and taking ownership in determining the next step forward.
- Proven experience collaborating and partnering with colleagues at all levels.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills, strong business acumen, and the ability to effectively simplify complex concepts.
- Ability to project manage and juggle multiple priorities at once.
- Creative thinker, with an entrepreneurial spirit to help ensure individual employee and company success.
- Proven ability to have sensitive conversations and advise colleagues on HR related issues.

Starting salary for this role is in the range of $100,500 - $125,000 and is dependent on numerous factors, including but not limited to location, work experience, and skills. This range does not include other compensation benefits. Axios' compensation philosophy takes into account cost of labor differentials across the country. Because this is a remote-optional job posting, this salary range takes into account all possible locations within the United States, but candidates will only be eligible for the salary range for their location.
