The Details: Ideal candidates will embody an entrepreneurial spirit, a passion for Axios’ mission and will be responsible for the following:

  • Work closely with the CTO to build a vision for technology at Axios
  • Set standards and define best practice for backend engineering
  • Hire, retain, and grow the world-class talent Axios needs to succeed
  • Coach and mentor staff to help them grow in their abilities as they work on cross-functional product-oriented squads
  • Ensure all engineers in your domain are delivering high-quality technical output
  • Work closely side-by-side with staff as needed to help them through tricky problem solving
  • Demonstrate excellent judgment in technical decision making
  • Be an authority on systems architecture and ensure squads are aligning their technical choices to the bigger picture
  • Hold yourself and your team accountable to delivering high-quality, pragmatic results that meet the needs of the business in the timelines provided

Qualifications:

  • Proven track record as a successful software engineer with deep, current technical experience
  • Experience leading and managing multiple teams of developers in a fast-growth environment
  • Deep, current technical capacity with software development, architecture, data design and implementation, and enterprise-grade software delivery
  • Proven track record of creating pragmatic, maintainable systems using industry-recognized best practices
  • Significant, current knowledge of Python, Node, related frameworks, and technologies
  • Experience with front-end technologies, specifically React, is a major plus
