We're looking for a Head of Retail to lead strategy and execution of physical retail at Away, including long terms stores, pop ups, and showrooms. Physical retail at Away is much more than a traditional store, we’re creating innovative community hubs and experiences that service as both retail opportunities and marketing platforms. The right person is excited for the varied responsibilities that come with leading retail expansion including analyzing potential markets, negotiating leases, creating and presenting budgets, leading store operations and recruiting, developing KPIs and processes, and more. This role is based in our Noho, NYC office and reports to the Director of Finance & Operations.


Some of what you’ll do:

  • Develop comprehensive retail strategy with mix of long term stores, pop ups, and showrooms
  • Create budgets and business case for proposed opportunities
  • Build relationships with commercial brokers to identify and negotiate the best real estate opportunities
  • Work cross functionally with other departments, including Finance, Creative, Operations, Consumer Insights, Customer Experience, Brand Marketing, and PR on the launch and ongoing management of our existing and to-be-opened physical locations
  • Build and manage store P&L
  • Identify and report on KPIs 
  • Build and report on customer feedback metrics
  • Map out retail experience including service standards, music, collateral 
  • Develop retail policies and procedures including opening and closing checklists, cycle counts, etc.
  • Manage the overall project plans for opening stores, including working with the architects, designers, and general contractors
  • Build store teams and processes, and manage store managers in a District Manager capacity as well as train new store teams

Who you are:

  • You have 5-10 years experience in a series of corporate brick & mortar retail roles including opening new stores
  • You have deep knowledge of commercial real estate negotiations, project planning, and building unique store experiences  
  • Your communication skills are unrivaled, and you know how to make people listen and understand
  • You’re an excellent planner who can both develop a vision and execute on it
  • You’re a leader who will thoughtfully develop and mentor a team
  • You love to travel (but that's a given)
