Summary

We're looking for a VP of Communications to lead strategy and execution of global communications, including press, influencers, and social media. The right person is creative, organized, ambitious, and excited to manage both an internal team as well as several external agencies. This role is based in our Noho, NYC headquarters and reports to the Co-Founder and CEO.

 

Some of what you’ll do:

  • Oversee Away's PR team (both domestic and international), influencer team, and social media team to support new product launches, experiential programs, seasonal activations, and brand partnerships as well as evergreen stories
  • Mentor and develop a team of direct and indirect reports to ensure they have the coaching, tools, and skill sets needed to thrive and grow in their roles 
  • Work closely with Brand Marketing team to increase awareness around brand activations and ideate marketing initiatives that align with Communications goals and strategy
  • Work closely with the Retail and International team on store launches and international market expansion comms
  • Cultivate close relationships with journalists and editors across travel, fashion, lifestyle, and business media and stay on top of trends and story lines that we can opportunistically become a part of
  • Drive strategy for brand positioning through executive thought leadership
  • Create scalable processes across all areas of Communications to ensure the team can seamlessly work with both external parters and cross-functionally across the Away team 
  • Lead the development of a comprehensive Comms library, including media documents, FAQs, talking points, and press releases
  • Develop short- and long-term strategic positioning of Away in the media

 

Who you are:

  • You have at least 10 years experience in a series of Communications roles—including 3+ years of brand-side and/or early stage company experience—as well as 5+ years experience leading high performing teams 
  • You have deep knowledge of national, top-tier press cycles and existing relationships with editors and journalists  
  • Your communication skills are unrivaled, and you know how to make people listen and understand
  • You have a deep understanding of Social Media and Influencers, and an ability to develop and oversee strategies that allow Away to leverage these communication opportunities in a best-in-class way 
  • You have extraordinary writing and editing skills
  • You’re an excellent planner who can both develop a vision and execute on it
  • You’re a leader who will thoughtfully develop and mentor a team
  • You love to travel (but that's a given)
