Away is a global lifestyle brand with a mission to transform travel through products and content that inspire people to get away more. In support of our mission, we are seeking a Technical Program Manager to join our Technology team.
Want to help us transform the travel experience? The ideal candidate will have experience with 2+ years in the E-commerce/Retail industry and 6+ years in managing large engineering projects and programs. You will report to the Vice President of Engineering and will be hybrid with a quarterly in-office attendance required and determined by your manager.

What you’ll do:

Oversee large engineering projects and programs that are highly technical & cross-functional in nature

Provide hands-on, end-to-end program management from inception to release while maintaining the project team's focus on delivering the optimal outcome

Partner with engineering leads and product managers to translate requirements and specifications into comprehensive execution plans

Manage milestone mapping, prioritization, and communication to facilitate project collaboration

Provide visibility to the team’s work and priorities through strong communication practices

Identify risks, manage project schedules, and communicate clearly with cross-functional partners across the company

Manage technical dependencies across multiple teams, functions, departments, and stakeholders
-
Remove obstacles that slow down or prevent project teams from delivering on project goals

Demonstrate technical knowledge to drive technical trade-off decisions

Work closely with engineering directors, managers, and cross-functional teams to get quality products and new features built, tested, and released

Work closely with the legal and regulatory arms of the company to ensure any compliance and legal requirements are captured accurately

Work across functions to build and integrate with third-party systems to launch software that meets Away’s digital business needs.

Facilitate communication of project status and remove impediments within the engineering org (e.g. between App, Data, SRE, and QA)

Develop strong partnerships with key functional stakeholders to drive focus on business goals

Propose capacity changes and maintain the forward plan and roadmaps

Leverage Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to inform progress against the roadmap

Provide monthly program reviews and updates to the engineering leadership team

Facilitate the prioritization of ad-hoc requests and changes in program management scope

Identify opportunities to improve program execution and increase future project delivery through process improvements

Drive postmortem learning and sustainable improvements over time

Partner with the VP of Engineering to shape how longer-term pieces of work are delivered and how project statuses are reported.
Who you are:

6+ years of progressive technical program management experience
-
3+ years of experience working directly with agile teams
-
2+ years experience in e-commerce / retail industry
-
Experience managing large-scale projects across engineering teams, building sustainable processes, and coordinating release schedules
-
Knowledge of professional software engineering practices & best practices for the full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and technical operations.

Experience in Agile software development and solid understanding of systems architecture, design, and implementation

Ability to navigate tough situations, juggling various priorities and managing constraints
-
Ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical audiences

Track record for being detail-oriented with a demonstrated ability to self-motivate and follow through on projects

Smart about choosing between fast and right

Proven track record of data-driven decision-making and applying continuous improvement methodologies across teams

Strong interpersonal communication and problem-solving skills

Ability to succinctly summarize key findings in front of executive stakeholders

Experience with machine learning, loyalty reward, and customer data platforms is a plus

BS in engineering, computer science or related discipline is a plus
