Social Media Manager

Alumni Ventures Group is a fast-growing organization with 100 employees across the country and a widespread, engaged community of over 400,000 entrepreneurs, investors, and supporters. We are disrupting venture capital with our smart, simple product offerings, bringing smart, simple venture capital portfolios to the 13 million accredited American investors who don’t have venture portfolios. Our corporate headquarters in Manchester, NH provides back-office support and resources to our fund teams in Boston, Manchester, NH, NYC, Chicago, SF and Austin, TX.  On an annual basis, these teams raise funds from their respective communities to invest in diverse, promising startups and growing businesses. Our key competitive advantage as an investor is the combined scale and connectivity of our vast network, our Connected Capital, which provides capital, sources deals and adds unique value for our portfolio companies. AVG has successfully launched 25 venture funds to date and will build another dozen or so funds over the next few years. We are private, for-profit, and not part of any school.


As AVG looks forward, we seek to grow and create value—with the goal of eventually becoming the most valuable venture capital firm in the world. To that end, we are seeking a full-time Social Media Manager to join our Growth Marketing team. We have a unique challenge - marketing a new-to-the-market B2C product that has a moderate to long sales cycle (30 days to 2 years) and a complex user journey. We are seeking a creative and experienced communicator who is well versed in creating engaging social media content and conversations that build brands, grow followership, fuel lead capture, and nurture prospects. Our company has a unique voice in the venture industry, and organic social will become a major, if not the primary, outlet for that voice.


The Social Media Manager is a highly motivated, creative individual with experience and a passion for connecting with current and future customers. Reporting to the EVP of Community Growth, success for the Social Media Manager will be the transformation of our social media accounts into dynamic, engaging communities that have a material impact on our ability to attract new leads and customers to the business and elevate the Alumni Ventures Group brand.  Our goals for this position are clear: to use social media in a way that brings a direct, material and measurable benefit to our business by:

Required Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor's degree, ideally in Marketing, Communications or a related field
  • 5+ years of direct social media marketing experience with in-depth knowledge and understanding of social media platforms, their respective participants (Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, etc.) and how each platform can be deployed in different scenarios
  • Focused experience with community building, community management, social media operations, and performance-based social media strategies
  • Possesses knowledge and experience in several facets of digital marketing
  • Experience sourcing, tracking, managing and reporting on the development and publishing of engaging multimedia and interactive content
  • Mastery operating corporate brand profiles for LinkedIn, Facebook, and Twitter
  • Excellent marketing writing and design skills, including Adobe Illustrator and Canva
  • Digital marketing analytics, including campaign creation, tracking and tagging, and attribution
  • Excellent communication skills, structured thinking, detailed planning, and superb attention to detail
  • Experience operating and managing social media marketing technology tools, such as Hootsuite, Sendible, SocialPilot, Zoho, etc.
  • Possesses functional knowledge and/or personal experience with WordPress CMS (self-hosted)
  • Strong analytical ability, including knowledge of how to use data from social media platforms to optimize performance and inform future decisions
  • Must be a highly entrepreneurial self-starter and multi-tasker who thrives in fast-paced work culture
  • Highly collaborative, cross-functional teammate

  • Practices superior time management
  • Team player with the confidence to take the lead and guide other employees when necessary. (ie: content development, creation, and editing of content, and online reputation management)
  • Demonstrates winning Social Customer Service techniques such as empathy, patience, advocacy, and conflict resolution
  • Possesses a great ability to identify potential negative or crisis situation and apply conflict resolution principles to mitigate issues



  • Work with EVP of Community Growth to build out and evolve organic social media strategy, goals, and content pillars
  • Develop organic social media channels to materially contribute to community growth, lead generation, and nurture of prospects already in our communities, as well as build brand equity for Alumni Ventures Group
  • Manage AVG and fund-specific profile design and static content on all core platforms
  • Lead editorial calendar for organic social media accounts - AVG and alumni funds
  • Create, curate, and manage all published content (images, video, written and audio/podcast), leveraging content built by our in-house content team and self-generated content, that will delight, engage, and educate our followers
  • Moderate all owned AVG social media communities, including responding to prospect inquiries and mitigating negative comments
  • Own and implement all social media marketing technology and reporting to management.
  • Develop social media listening capability
  • Collaborate and integrate with the paid social media team to deliver a holistic social media experience
