Avantium R&D Solutions (RDS) is the leading provider of advanced catalyst testing units and services. We leverage our extensive chemical and scientific expertise, combined with our process development and engineering skills to contribute to the emerging and fast-growing field of sustainable chemistry.
We are seeking a motivated and experienced Project Leader to join our R&D Solutions team. The successful candidate will lead projects related to refinery catalyst testing, ensuring the delivery of high-quality results, and maintaining strong customer relationships.
Responsibilities
As a Project Leader you are pivotal in designing and executing complex and demanding catalyst testing projects for our customers. This role is dedicated to serving refineries and catalyst companies globally, requiring a deep understanding of their industrial processes. The Project Leader ensures that this understanding translates into the accurate design, execution, and data reporting of the required tests.
- Definition of project requirements with regards to safety, configuration of equipment, catalyst preparation, testing protocols, and data analysis.
- Scoping of projects, including cost model, planning, and risk management. This should provide clear expectations for all parties involved and form the basis for smooth execution to the full satisfaction of our customers.
- Drafting of winning, technical proposals as a key member of our Lead Development Teams that are put in place to land competitive and compelling offers.
- Detailed safety analysis and implementation of required safety measures and protocols to execute experiments in line with Avantium’s high safety standards.
- Leading the project team in safely delivering the full scope of projects, on-time, and in-budget, achieving maximum customer satisfaction.
- Good project control in terms of planning, costs, and team engagement throughout execution.
- Frequent reporting of project progress to the customer and internal stakeholders and management of deviations to the original plan with rigour and clarity.
- Budgetary forecasting and close-out of projects.
- Identification of new business opportunities in collaboration with Business Development team.
- Continuous improvement of our processes, equipment usage, and data processing.
- Occasionally publish technical articles or speak at conferences to demonstrate Avantium's strengths.
What do you bring?
As Project Leader you minimally require a PhD in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering preferred, with focus on catalysis or an MSc degree with a minimum of 8 years working experience in catalysis research/industry.
This role is perfect for you if you have the following knowledge and skills:
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience in catalyst testing or a related area.
- At least 2 years in a project leadership role in a relevant industrial or research organization.
- Knowledge of refinery processes and catalyst technologies, specifically in hydrotreating and hydrocracking processes is highly desirable.
- Proven track record of managing complex projects and delivering results on time and within budget.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Programming and database management capability. JMP/SQL knowledge is plus.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in a collaborative environment.
- Proficiency in project management software and tools.
- Experience with process or lab automation and equipment building.
- Good knowledge of MS Office programs.
- Willingness to occasionally travel to customers or conferences.
- Fluent in English.
