WHAT YOU WILL DO:
- Work closely with Department Heads and the Look Development and Lighting/Compositing teams to identify and solve issues.
- Support the Look Development team with technical issues; debugging Katana/RenderMan or pipeline issues.
- Assist with integrating and maintaining the animation pipeline with Shotgrid and other proprietary asset management systems.
- Collaborate with all departments to facilitate the flow of assets through the pipeline.
- Identify and troubleshoot bottlenecks while optimizing artist workflows.
- Help create and maintain technical documentation.
- Help write and maintain tools/templates related to Katana, Mari, Substance, and Maya.
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR:
- 4+ years of industry experience working in a studio environment (Animation pipeline).
- Strong knowledge of real-world materials, energy conservation principles, and physically based rendering and shader models.
- Extensive experience with modern path-traced production render engines.
- Experience building and maintaining complex shading networks, with a focus on methodical and efficient network design.
- Experience producing a variety of different material styles (hard-surface, organic, groom, FX-driven).
- Experience coding with Python and/or Lua.
- Understanding of rendering efficiency; providing assets to effectively work within the different shot requirements.
- Understanding of CG pipelines as a whole and experience working collaboratively with other departments.
- Experience with Katana/Renderman is required.
- Experience with Mari and understanding of the Mari node graph is an asset.
- Experience with Unreal Engine is an asset.
- Experience with USD is an asset.
- Experience with shader writing is an asset.
- Experience assisting in R&D tool/pipeline development is an asset.
- Currently legally eligible to work in Canada.
- BC residents are preferred for this role, however applicants from across Canada will be considered.
