Atomic AI is a well-funded, early-stage biotechnology company transforming the rational design of molecules and medicines through the cutting-edge fusion of artificial intelligence and structural biology. Atomic’s unique R&D platform, based on research featured on the cover of Science (doi.org/10.1126/science.abe5650), provides new strategies to treat or cure previously undruggable diseases by targeting RNA structure. We are an interdisciplinary team working across computational and experimental biology and believe that our strongest asset is our people.

Job Description:

As a Research Associate in the drug discovery team, you will work closely with other scientists to support our ongoing efforts to generate preclinical data for small molecules targeting RNA and may run routine qPCR, cell proliferation, RNA sequencing, and other biochemical and cellular assays in high throughput formats. Additional responsibility may include performing biophysical assays using ITC, and in future, process serum and tissue samples from in vivo animal efficacy studies to identify biomarkers and demonstrate target engagement. Part of this position requires managing compound inventories and may run weekly cellular or biophysical screening assays. Successful candidates will regularly interact with CROs and work in highly collaborative team-based projects. You will need to properly record results in  ELN notebook and upload data using online softwares for team visualization. This position will be onsite at Atomic AI’s South SF location at the very epicenter of San Francisco’s flourishing, evolving and challenging biopharmaceutical industry.

As a part of Atomic AI’s drug discovery team you will: :

  • Contribute to discovery biology and preclinical development work in oncology and other therapeutic areas.
  • Design, establish and develop various cellular, biochemical, and biophysical assays to screen compounds.
  • Manage compound libraries and inventories.
  • Execute high-throughput compound screening using liquid handlers and hit validations using cellular and biochemical assays.
  • Routinely perform RNA isolation, qPCR, RNA-seq experiments.
  • Maintain cell cultures (cell lines and primary cells), screen multiple cells for compound profiling,  execute cell based assays including cell viability, signal transduction, and reporter assays
  • Biochemical assays including but not limited to ITC, ELISA, fluorescence, luminescence assays and binding assays.
  • Participate in discussions with the CRO partners to enable technology transfer and management.
  • Perform data analysis, and record scientific data in an ELN and upload to online databases.
  • Write weekly progress reports and share results in project meetings in a timely manner.
  • Actively contribute to a focused, team-oriented atmosphere, providing assistance and/or guidance to colleagues when needed.

This job might be great for you if you have

  • MS/BS in Biology with a minimum of 2-5 years of industry/biotech experience.
  • Strong background in basic research or translational research in oncology, including but not limited to high throughput screening, cell-based assays, protein biochemistry, molecular biology with emphasis on RNA technologies.
  • Hands-on experience in mammalian cell culture, transfections, maintenance, and running cellular assays.
  • Proficient in RNA isolation, qPCR, and preparing samples for Next Generation sequencing
  • Experience in processing tissue samples from in vivo animal studies for various downstream applications.
  • Prior experience in using liquid handlers, high-throughput assay formats (384 well) desired but not required.
  • Highly analytical mindset, attention to detail, organization skills, and rigorous experimental record keeping, and enjoy troubleshooting experimental failures.
  • Ability to work independently and able to balance multiple tasks or projects.
