Summary of the role:
We are seeking a talented and experienced writer to join us as the Chief Editor to lead our team of writers in crafting compelling and authentic application essays for our students.
The successful candidate will play a critical role in mentoring and managing the writing team, as well as reviewing and finalizing essays for submission. This position requires exceptional writing skills, strong leadership abilities, and a passion for helping students articulate their goals and experiences effectively.
Key Responsibilities:
Team Leadership:
- Lead and mentor a team of 20+ writers.
- Provide guidance, support, and feedback to ensure high-quality work. Foster a collaborative and creative work environment.
- Develop and deliver training programs for writers to enhance writing skills and knowledge of college admissions. Motivate and empower writers to excel.
Essay Review and Finalization:
- Lead the application essay review process for student application essays.
- Ensure essays are polished, coherent, and aligned with student goals.
- Provide constructive feedback and edits to enhance clarity, structure, and storytelling.
Quality Assurance:
- Implement rigorous quality assurance processes. Conduct regular audits and evaluations of essays.
- Identify areas for improvement and ensure adherence to best practices.
Client Communication:
- Manage client (parent) relationships. Prevent and resolve any escalations
- Collaborate with the consulting team to understand client preferences and goals.
- Ensure essay deliverables meet or exceed client expectations.
Process Improvement:
- Continuously evaluate and refine writing processes and workflows.
- Optimize efficiency, productivity, and quality outcomes.
- Implement new tools or strategies to enhance effectiveness.
Industry Research:
- Stay abreast of trends in college admissions and essay writing.
- Leverage insights to inform writing strategies and approaches.
- Ensure services remain relevant and competitive in the higher education landscape.
Education and Experience Required:
Bachelor's degree in English, Journalism, Communications, or related field; advanced degree preferred.
Minimum of 7 years of experience in professional writing, editing, or content creation, with exposure to college admissions essays or similar genres.
Understanding of college admissions processes, essay prompts, and expectations of admissions committees.
Strong leadership and management skills, with experience leading teams and mentoring junior writers.
Exceptional writing and editing abilities, with a keen eye for detail and a talent for storytelling.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and communicate complex ideas clearly and persuasively.
