We are seeking a seasoned Data Science leader who is an expert in connecting the dots between business, data and tech, can lead a global team of data scientists, operate with a startup mentality to deliver new products and establish our experimentation framework at Assembly.

The successful candidate is an experienced manager with a passion for inventing, experimenting, and simplifying. You are analytical and possess a passion for working with data to develop new products and capabilities. You empower data driven decision making through implementing statistical models to define and measure metrics for evaluating health of the business. You can communicate your view and get adhesion from your team, develop long term data product strategy and share your plans effectively with business stakeholders. This requires excellent business acumen and communication skills as well as the ability to work with product leaders to develop and create our next big products.

You’ll report directly to the VP of Data Product Management and work alongside Data Analytics and Data Engineering leaders.

Responsibilities

  • Grow, lead, develop, and accelerate Assembly’s data science teams
  • Drive the scope and effectiveness of the data science function at Assembly
  • Establish an experimentation framework and build this into our product engineering culture
  • Leverage a variety of first and third party data sources to improve existing and generate new products for ecommerce sellers using Assembly’s products
  • Create a scalable and trusted ML Ops platform alongside your engineering counterparts
  • Establish best practices for data science development
  • Develop the company’s data product roadmap alongside data product management
  • Contribute to Assembly’s data team by influencing processes, tools, and systems that will allow us to make better decisions in a scalable way

Skills & Qualifications

  • Minimum of 5 years experience in a senior leadership position managing a data science team
  • Experience with a high growth company that focuses on solving problems with iterative technical solutions
  • Hands on experience with Python, SQL, and relational databases. Experience with Snowflake and dbt is a plus
  • Proven leadership of teams that ship high quality data products in production and at scale
  • Strong perspective on data ops and ml ops development cycles
  • Strong familiarity with advanced statistics and modeling approaches
  • Experience working with multiple executive level business stakeholders
  • Share and work in accordance with our values

Nice to Haves

  • PhD in Math, Economics, Bioinformatics, Statistics, Engineering, Computer Science, or other quantitative fields
  • Experience with ecommerce products and data sets
  • Experience with the modern data stack (Fivetran / Snowflake / dbt / Looker / Census or equivalents) and data orchestration platforms (Airflow, Dagster, Prefect)
  • Familiarity with MLOps/infra required to support data science product solutions
  • Familiarity and experience with methods for experimental design and causal inference
