The Application Data Loading (LunaDb) team builds the internal frameworks powering all data loading in the Asana web application. The team enables Asana engineers to move fast by collaborating with both product teams on how to design new features, and infrastructure teams to ensure the scalability and performance of Asana. We combine the best ideas from other web technologies with our internal graph server, taking into account Asana’s scale and unique product needs.

Engineers on this team are closely aware of the product we are building and the needs of the teams working directly on new asana features. We find ways to accelerate this while also considering the performance of the application as a whole, and its behavior as a distributed system.

We’re looking for an experienced software engineer to further improve the power and simplicity of our frameworks. You’ll contribute to extending our powerful in-house graph query language, as well as the APIs which allow our data-intensive application to be highly performant while automatically responding when users make changes. The team balances short term improvements to unblock new features, with large-scale re-imagining of how software is written at the company.

What you’ll achieve

  • Produce high-quality design and code which enable new ways for product engineers to build features
  • Own particular areas of our frameworks, and actively advocate for how they can be improved
  • Solve to novel engineering problems, balancing product performance and engineer velocity
  • Evangelize good code and solid engineering and operability practices

About you

  • 4+ years of software engineering experience, ideally with some experience building APIs, frameworks, or database abstraction layers.
  • Excellent communication skills for collaborating with other teams
  • Sound judgment when balancing moving quickly with producing quality code and long-term code maintainability
