The Financial Control Group (FCG) is part of Internal Audit, however, is a second line of defense function. FCG is primarily responsible for managing the Internal Controls over Financial Reporting (ICFR) (SOX/MAR program). FCG's primary objective is to ensure the internal control environment is adequately maintained and the SOX program is executed effectively in support of Section 302/404 as required by the Sarbanes Oxley Act of 2002. Its activities are considered part of the “monitoring” layer of the system of internal control and therefore, are included in both management's and the external auditor’s assessment.  FCG reports its results to Management, the SOX Steering Committee, and the company’s Audit Committee. 

The Senior Analyst, Financial Control Group is responsible for partnering with the business to manage the internal controls over financial reporting (ICFR)/SOX program. The position will assess the design and operating effectiveness of the company’s ICFR through walkthrough and independent testing procedures. This position will be responsible for assisting the AVP, Financial Control Group in driving strategy for SOX compliance including the development/maintenance of ICFR policy, procedures, and guidance; risk assessment/scoping; deficiency evaluation and aggregation; and governance reporting to SOX Steering Committee and Audit Committees.  The position will also assist in training control/process owners on ICFR and will promote and enforce standardization of controls across the enterprise.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the annual risk assessment (FSLI and Business Segments) and scoping process. Coordinate and engage with Business Segments and functional teams to ensure the annual SOX scope is reflective of the Company's overall risk management strategy and contemplates significant changes that may have an impact on the design and/or effectiveness of controls.
  • Collaborate with process owners to create flowcharts of key processes, identifying key risks and controls.
  • Document SOX walkthroughs to evaluate the design and operating effectiveness of internal controls over financial reporting, ensuring key risks are identified and adequacy of stated controls and process documentation, and identify any control gaps.
  • Develop and execute testing of key controls for assigned areas in established/required timeline
  • Communicate findings: Identify, assess, and document deficiencies, including root cause and exposure analysis. Partner with business leaders to develop remediation strategies for identified issues and monitor remediation activities.
  • Provide management with a controls assessment associated with changes to process and/or technology that would impact the control environment.
  • Maintain ongoing communication and coordination with External Auditors to ensure alignment on SOX planning, walkthroughs, and testing, audit requests, and remediation of deficiencies, in order to maximize external audit reliance.
  • Assists in the preparation of executive management materials highlighting overall SOX progress and results.
  • Develop and conduct training program to educate Business Process and Information Technology control/process owners.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business Administration, Finance, or equivalent; CPA, MBA or CIA preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years experience in public accounting or internal audit; insurance industry or financial services industry experience required.
  • Deadline-oriented, self-starter possessing a strong work ethic.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • The ability to multi-task; capable of meeting deadlines.  Good organizational and time management skills.
  • Flexible in a changing and demanding environment.  Demonstrated skill in planning and project management, and in maintaining composure under pressure while meeting multiple deadlines.
  • Ability to interact with all levels of management; ability to establish and maintain harmonious working relationships with co-workers, staff and external contacts, and to work effectively in a professional team environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, Visio, Outlook).
  • Polished and professional written and verbal communication skills, including active listening skills and oral presentation skills.  The ability to read and write English fluently is required.
  • Both domestic and international travel up to 15% may be required.

The published salary range applies to applicants that reside in the state of Colorado. The salary range for this role is $ 90,000 - $ 108,00.00. This position is eligible for an annual bonus based on company and individual performance.
