We are looking for a highly capable Claims Coverage Attorney to join our team and work remote or from any of our US offices. This role will be managing property and casualty claims litigation that will have a significant impact on bottom line results.

 

The primary duties and responsibilities of the role are:

  • Manage property and casualty claims-related litigation, including coverage actions, contractual matters, and extra-contractual/bad faith claims;
  • Collaborate with the Claims Department and outside counsel, where applicable, to devise strategies for defending coverage and other litigation, including pre-trial and trial strategies;
  • Assess and analyze possible outcomes of litigation and provide practical, cost-effective solutions;
  • Select and manage outside counsel;
  • Review full range of litigation documents, including pleadings, motions, discovery responses, pre-trial submissions, and trial submissions;
  • Prepare Company witnesses for depositions, trials, and mediations;
  • Provide strategic advice to company’s business partners, particularly claims examiners, and claim managers. Report to senior management on significant matters, as well as trends, emerging issues, and other coverage related;
  • Assist in training for Claims employees and other business partners on extra-contractual/bad faith and other covered related subjects.

Core minimum qualifications and requirements for this position include:

  • Juris Doctor from an accredited law school is required. Licensed attorney, in good standing in at least one state court in the United States.
  • A minimum of five years’ legal experience handling coverage and bad faith litigation for an insurance company or law firm. Previous management experience helpful, but not required.
  • Broad knowledge of professional and commercial coverages, including casualty, property and professional lines.
  • Must have excellent and effective communication skills and an ability to productively and positively interact and collaborate with business partners at all levels. This includes having excellent “people skills” and being a true team player.
  • Exhibit natural curiosity.
  • Desire to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent evaluation and strategic skills required.
  • Must have the ability to work independently and demonstrate the ability to exercise sound judgment.
  • Up to 15% travel may be required.
  • Proficient in MS Office Suite and other business-related software.
  • Polished and professional written and verbal communication skills. 
  • The ability to read and write English fluently is required.

The salary range for this role for Colorado workers is $150,400 - $179,000 and this position is eligible for an annual bonus based on company and individual performance.
