Argo’s Underwriting Support Team offers assistance to the overall underwriting function by providing superior customer service and efficiently processing various underwriting transactions while always striving to continue to improve workflows and processes through data research and analysis.  This position will lead and supervise a team of Underwriting Support Staff by providing guidance, mentorship, “out of authority” approvals, and ensuring our Underwriting Support Standards are met by each individual and the team as a whole.  

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Manage assigned Underwriting Support Staff of 7 Underwriting Assistants
  • Participate in the recruitment and selection process to ensure the organization has the necessary talent to accomplish business goals.
  • Conduct or contribute to Development Reviews and engage direct reports in developmental and skill building opportunities.
  • Approve authorizations for service requests that are outside of support staff authority
  • Direct tasking flow and ensure effective efficient work processes are in place.
  • Liaison with other Division Managers on special issues and projects.
  • Oversee agency management for assigned territory; manage specific producer relationship issues concerning service.
  • Conduct underwriting file analysis, including identifying forms and endorsements used in policy construction.
  • Assist with triage of submissions to determine risk selection acceptability including processing declinations or identify and/or obtain essential information required for quoting purposes.
  • Assist underwriters in carrying out their essential duties and responsibilities to enhance the overall performance of the division through utilization of systems and guidelines as provided.
  • Develop and maintain positive working relationships with underwriters, customers and business partners to provide high quality service to clients.
  • Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma or equivalent; college course work/degree and insurance designation are preferred.
  • Minimum of 3 years of insurance experience with authority.
  • One to three years previous supervisory experience desired.
  • Ability to balance multiple inquiries and competing demands utilizing a positive coaching approach with employees.
  • Must be able to function effectively in a time sensitive and high-volume environment
  • Effective leadership skills with a sound influence in dealing with challenging situations.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Able to work autonomously in a fast paced, production-oriented environment.
  • Analytical ability.
  • Excellent working rapport with wholesale brokerage community.
  • Ability to work successfully in a team environment.
  • Minimum travel may be requested.
