Syndicate Head of Ceded Reinsurance

This role coordinates outwards treaty placement activities including analysis, review and administration for casualty, property and professional lines of Argo Global and supports the growing global operations of Argo Group. This job reports to the Group Headed of Ceded Re.

 

Key responsibilities include:

  • Oversee multiple placements per year. Work closely with the business units, reviewing underwriting and loss data. Manage junior level associates throughout the placement process.
  • Prepare reinsurance plan figures & structures for the SBF process, continuously monitor key Reinsurance metrics (budgets, exposure to reinsurer, RI erosion, Aged Debt etc)
  • Lead the preparation of the external submissions for the reinsurance market following department guidelines and protocols.
    • Liaise with Brokers, Underwriting, Claims, Actuarial, Capital Modeling, Finance, Accounting and Legal
  • Negotiation and placement of reinsurance treaties across multiple classes
    • Monitor progress of placement
    • Communicate with brokers on terms and conditions 
    • Work with underwriters on developing responses to inquiries from reinsurers
    • Confer with actuarial or capital modeling on underlying analytics
    • Keep senior management advised of developments and problems
  • Present and communicate with the Reinsurance Committee, including Syndicate senior management (MD, Active Underwriter, CFO) and prepare supporting materials.
  • Responsibility for all reinsurance documentation and adherence to Lloyd’s Minimum Standards
    • Placement slips, Cover Notes or Evidence of Cover, Endorsements, and special acceptances
    • Ensure timely delivery of reinsurance documents and completion within internal and regulatory timeframes,
    • Ensure completion of FAS113 Documentation and SOX Compliance
    • Review documentation across placements to ensure best in class wordings
  • Involvement in special projects, due diligence, and development of new reinsurance programs with underwriting, finance and capital modeling. Ad-Hoc analysis as required to support ceded re function and its involvement across the group
  • Form and maintain strategic relationships with brokers and reinsurers, opine on changes in strategy, manage RFP processes.

 

Skills and Competencies

Significant Reinsurance experience in broking, underwriting or buying in the Lloyd’s market.

Excellent communication (both written and verbal) and interpersonal skills

Ability to manage, guide, train and assist junior level associate.

Strong negotiation skills.

Highly numerate with advanced Excel skills

Experience in program structuring and pricing.

Ability to work to deadlines and prioritize tasks.

Ability to cope effectively with complexity and change
