The Argo Construction practice is seeking a Technical Underwriting Manager to assess underwriting results and when identified as necessary, provide technical guidance to adapt guidelines, appetite, pricing and/or terms and conditions to ensure profitable underwriting results. Be the technical subject matter expert on general liability construction exposure. Be a resources and advisor to the underwriting teams on technical underwriting matters. Participate in new product line development, product line reviews, claim assessments and provide mentoring and consultation.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

· Manage assigned underwriting team’s underwriting appetite and practices to ensure team hit target loss ratios.

· Consult with underwriting team leaders to provide underwriting best practices and technical advice to maximize profitability

· Review larger and more highly complex risks/policies to verify acceptability based upon company underwriting guidelines and granted underwriting authority.

· Regularly review and assess claims and claim analytics to identify positive and negative trends and then propose changes/options to enhance profit

· Conduct formal product line reviews, including underwriting files audits, claims reviews and actuary data analysis.

· Participate in new product development.

· Interact with the claims department to ensure claims handling has the lowest leakage possible

· Review claims to seek insight into book performance.

· Provide consultation to business unit leaders to amend appetite and guidelines based on assessments conducted.

· Review state laws to ensure business is best handled in accordance within the state.

· Create, analyze, and interpret data from various reports.

· Mentor team members.

· Conduct training and educational sessions within the department.

· Other duties as assigned.

· Ensures the achievement of continued profitability, growth and/or operational efficiencies for division through assessment of risk tolerance, market appetite and emerging risk issues.

QUALIFICATIONS:

· Bachelor’s degree or ten years related insurance experience and/or equivalent combination of education and experience.

· Able to assess results independently and provide suggestions

· Demonstrates an understanding and ability to organize and decipher information.

· Strong oral and written communication skills.

· Previous insurance educational work, IIA and CPCU designation strongly preferred.

· Detail oriented with initiative and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment.

· Excellent analytical skills.

· Claim review and/or assessment experience preferred.

· Advanced knowledge of computer programs, including Word, Excel, and Outlook and internet research skills.

· Skills required include analyzing and problem solving; decision making, building relationships; courage; innovation; communicating effectively, engaging and motivating people; negotiation; influencing others; focusing on service.
