Who we are:

Argo AI is in the business of building self-driving technology you can trust. With experienced leaders in the field and collaborative partnerships with some of the world’s largest automakers, we’re building self-driving technology that is engineered to scale globally and transform mobility for millions.

Talented individuals join our team because they share our purpose to make it safe, easy, and enjoyable for everyone to get around cities. We aspire to impact key industries that move people and goods, from ride hailing to deliveries.

Meet the team:

The Camera Engineering team is responsible for the design and development of custom camera hardware that serves as a critical input to Argo’s self-driving system. The Camera Engineering Team owns all aspects of camera technology development, including research, design, test, qualification, and deployment of Argo’s camera systems. Camera Engineers work with a cross-functional team of Argo hardware and software engineers as well as outside suppliers to actualize designs and bring them into production.

What you'll do:

  • Work with a team to deliver Argo’s custom camera hardware
  • Research, design, development, test, qualification, and deployment of Argo’s camera systems
  • Work in the domains of optical systems, mechanical systems, electronics, image processing, embedded software, perception software, thermal, EMI/EMC and vehicle integration
  • Define engineering requirements specifications for camera systems, including imager, optics, electrical, and mechanical subsystems
  • Design and carry out simulations, experiments, and characterization studies to validate performance of Argo’s camera systems
  • Collaborate with software engineering teams on image processing techniques, calibration methods, and novel approaches to imaging for autonomous vehicles
  • Work closely with outside suppliers to guide the manufacture, test, and qualification of Argo's camera systems

What you'll need to succeed:

  • Degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Physics or a related field
  • Experience developing and documenting design requirements, conducting trade studies, developing prototype designs, executing design analysis / simulation, integrating prototypes, conducting verification / validation testing, debugging design failures, and deploying designs to production
  • Ability to define and implement procedures for characterizing and testing image sensors, imaging optics, and camera assemblies in both laboratory and production environments
  • Strong understanding of image processing pipelines, including auto exposure (AE) and auto white balance (AWB) algorithms
  • Strong understanding of camera manufacturing processes, including both front-of-line and end-of-line assembly and test procedures
  • Experience with image quality evaluation using Matlab or equivalent software
  • Experience with opto-mechanical design and tolerance analysis
  • Experience with CAD design tools, such as Altium Designer and Solidworks
  • Experience with hardware debugging tools and methods
  • Quantitative / analytical mindset to probe, test and decompose challenging system problems into root cause issues with strong, detail oriented skills to solve them
  • A record of owning projects successfully and working in a fast paced environment
  • Ability to serve cross functional roles in a young company
  • Ability to attract, hire, and grow, a powerhouse team
  • Ability to collaborate with other teams and leaders to help entire organization grow in the same direction
  • Prefer experience with hardware components for robotics / automotive systems
  • Prefer experience developing hardware for application specific camera systems
  • Strong presentation and communication skills
  • Prefer candidates with experience working with contract engineering and contract manufacturing partners
  • Prefer candidates with experience in functional testing, reliability testing, and qualification of systems
  • Prefer candidates with experience developing highly complex hardware systems in robotics, transportation, aerospace, consumer electronics, defense, medical, energy, or similar industries

Additional Requirements: Possible occasional travel to remote offices, test facilities, engineering partners, or manufacturing partners

What we offer you:

  • High-quality individual and family medical, dental, and vision insurance
  • Competitive compensation packages

Our Background:

Argo AI was founded in late 2016 by industry experts with extensive experience building robotic systems for commercial applications. Our once-small team has since grown into an over 1,000-person strong company with strategic partnerships with two of the world’s leading automakers: Ford and Volkswagen. Our self-driving system is the first with commercial deployment plans for Europe and the U.S., and thanks to an ability to tap into both automakers’ global reach, our technology platform has the largest geographic deployment potential of any self-driving technology to date.

At Argo AI, we believe that embracing differences delivers superior results. We are an equal opportunity employer that is committed to an inclusive environment for all employees.
