The Position

Arevon is recruiting for the position of Director of Sustainability, an outstanding opportunity for individuals seeking an exciting, high-growth work environment in one of the most important industries of the 21st century. The Director of Sustainability will report to the Vice President of Government Affairs and Marketing and manage one team member.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and lead the implementation of Arevon’s sustainability strategy across the organization, from headquarters office to operating renewable energy sites
  • Amend existing and develop new corporate ESG policies and procedures that enhance transparency and integrate ESG considerations into Arevon’s business strategy
  • Build new systems that standardize sustainable best practices during greenfield and brownfield development, construction, and operational phases of utility-scale solar and battery storage projects.
  • Develop plans for improved energy, water, and waste efficiency, the reduction of environmental impact, and other value capture programs
  • Create and implement a roadmap for Arevon to meet its net-zero by 2040 goal
  • Track ESG regulations, manage ESG compliance, and coordinate with EHS, legal, and risk departments where needed to ensure compliance
  • Maintain internal ESG reporting for assets in operation and under development
  • Lead materiality assessments and update Arevon’s sustainability plans accordingly
  • Coordinate across internal functional teams and external customers, supply chain partners, NGOs and other groups to drive sustainability programs throughout the organization
  • Oversee preparation of Arevon’s annual sustainability report in accordance with GRI reporting standards.
  • Contribute to Arevon’s annual GRESB submission process, in coordination with the Asset Management team
  • Oversee preparation of quarterly reports on ESG incidents and activities
  • Maintain internal ESG event alert system
  • Respond to investor and counterparty requests for ESG information
  • Work with the Government Affairs and Communications teams to communicate Arevon’s sustainability strategy to internal and external stakeholders
  • Manage direct one report and external consultants

Qualifications and Characteristics

  • 15+ years of experience working in corporate sustainability or sustainability consulting
  • Experience delivering sustainability results in a renewable energy generation context is a huge plus
  • Experience driving sustainability strategies, materiality assessments, and setting sustainability-related KPIs
  • Ability to communicate analytical approaches, data-driven findings, and recommendations with confidence
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to build trust and collaborate across the company while collecting information for the ESG reporting program or building and rolling out new programs
  • Possession of excellent oral and written communication skills, including experience presenting to senior management and investors
  • Possession of excellent project management and organizational skills
  • Keen understanding of ESG principles and how to incorporate them into daily business practices
  • Experience training and educating internal and external stakeholders on sustainability practices
  • Experience with various standards and reporting regimes: GRI, GRESB, TCFD, SASB
  • Experience with ILO, UNGPs, UN SDGs, IFC Performance Standards, and Equator Principles
  • Strong qualitative and quantitative analytical skills
  • Ability to narrate and articulate clear sustainability messages supported by ESG data
  • Ability to build tools and databases to effectively manage and track large amounts of data
  • Ability to perform data analysis in an Excel spreadsheet and create charts/graphs with the data
  • Proficiency with the Microsoft Office suite, particularly Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint, Power BI, and Teams
  • Self-starter with strong organizational skills and the ability to handle multiple priorities daily
  • Possess an eye for detail and the desire for continuous process improvement
  • A Bachelor’s degree (BA/BS) or equivalent education, training, and experience. Master’s degree or equivalent experience in relevant field a plus. A broad range of majors and degrees will be considered.
  • Ability to travel (domestically) up to 35% of the time

Location

A fully remote location will be considered for candidates with proven industry experience. Phoenix-area team members will work from our Scottsdale office on a hybrid schedule (in-office days of Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday). Please specify your desired location in your cover letter.
