As a Cinematics Artist specializing in Layout Design, you’ll be crafting cinematic moments ranging from traditional film-style cinematics in game, to cinematic events that blend into gameplay.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Working with the cinematic, narrative, and design leadership, help guide and construct the visual storytelling inside cinematic game play moments (called Cin-Events) as well as crafted cinematics.
  • Utilizing proprietary tools you’ll be doing camera work, layout set up, coordinating with animation, FX, and lighting teams to craft cinematics and Cin-Events.
  • Work with level artists on level layouts that support cameras and character staging.
  • Create prototypes or pre-vis, both technically and artistically, to communicate cinematic intent across the development team.
  • Create and maintain supporting documentation for Cin-Event pipelines.
  • Assist with motion capture and performance capture sessions that support cinematic gameplay.
  • Validate the cinematic gameplay to ensure that the integrations did not cause any conflicts with the rest of the game or tools.
  • Be a bridge between cinematic artists and designers in helping maintain standards of gameplay to crafted cinematic to gameplay hand-off.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Passion for games and storytelling.
  • Portfolio demonstrating thorough understanding of composition, staging, camera, line of action, timing, and editing.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills. Demonstrated ability to collaborate, taking direction from stakeholders on the needs for the scene.
  • Able to solve technical problems independently.
  • Able to collaborate with engineering teams to find good technical solutions.
  • Experience with 3D software (MotionBuilder, Maya, Unreal Engine, Unity etc.).
  • Experience using video editing software.
  • Capacity to ramp up quickly with custom toolsets and deliver assets within the confines of real time engine constraints.

PLUSES (NICE TO HAVES)

  • Two or more years of working in cinematics/film/interactive narratives.
  • Experience working with design teams or working on game design assignments.
  • Aware of new technologies and processes related to the industry.
  • Solid storyboarding skills.
