About the Role

Arctic Wolf is on a journey to employ a world class Team Lead for our Site Reliability Engineering team. The ideal candidate will have been a key contributor in the growth and development of a SRE group, understand and lead associated processes, and has strong technical skills. Our systems run globally and scale to handle more than 250 billion events per day with continued exponential growth. Security is what we do, and reliability is what we need in order to provide the best possible Security Operations for our customers. We live and breathe Infrastructure-as-Code and are working hard to build a world class CI/CD pipeline. The SRE team at Arctic Wolf is not an operations team with a fancy label, but a software engineering role with a focus on reliability.

The team lead will be responsible for recruiting and helping us grow our EU-based SRE team.  Once established, this role will also lead the team’s day-to-day work and projects that team works on, while working collaboratively with other R&D teams to improve the reliability of our services.

Responsibilities Include:

Team Leadership (25-35%)

  • Lead a team that will deliver high quality, innovative software solutions, in collaboration with stakeholders such as architects, developers, product managers, CREs, S2, and others.
  • Conduct regular 1 on 1’s with the team providing continuous feedback.

  • Provide support to the team through clarity & direction and removing roadblocks.

  • Participate in the roadmap generation and creation for the SRE group.

  • Drive continuous improvements.

  • Build and maintain collaborative relationships with the team and other stakeholders within the company

  • Address first level administration with regards to vacation time/leave, and expenses

  • Play a key contributing role in the recruitment process for internal and external candidates

Engineering, Development and Design (60-70%)

  • Work with the Platform Engineering teams to continue to develop the continuous delivery and observability systems.

  • Collaborate with the R&D product teams in developing reliable, scalable, observable systems.

  • Triage and debug production incidents, and participate in blameless postmortems.

  • Reduce toil by automating everything.

  • Contribute to the reliability engineering within the R&D organization.

Once a year we hold a department-wide Hackathon, teaming up across all R&D teams over four days to collaborate and build cool ideas outside the normal project scope. While innovation is the focus, some of these ideas do make it into our products.

About You

A successful candidate will have experience the following areas:

  • Experience working in an SRE team responsible for large-scale services

  • Strong understanding of SRE concepts, principles and processes

  • Background in designing, building and running distributed, scalable systems

  • Development experience in Python, Go, or Java

  • Strong experience with core AWS technologies including EC2, ECS, EKS, S3 and CloudFormation

  • Experience with Kubernetes at scale

  • Solid work experience with Ubuntu or other Linux variants

  • Understanding of messaging services like Kafka or AWS SQS/SNS

In addition, you have proven leadership experience from previous projects, regardless of title held. You have the ability to perform programming tasks and large engineering projects with Independence and expertise. You will be responsible for guiding and mentoring other staff members and will regularly lead technical projects. You have a high level of mastery over software development best practices and building reusable and agile design patterns.

You have a history of delivering successful projects, as well as some lessons learned from failures. Even if you haven’t worked with all of our specific technologies, you bring a diverse knowledge base that you use to help the team solve complex technical problems. You’ll receive all the security training you need during our onboarding process and through additional training on the job.

*For this role, proficient English language skills (reading, writing, speaking) are a requirement. German language skills are a nice-to-have.

The interview process is approximately as follows:

  • Phone pre-screening: A recruiter contacts you to briefly discuss your work history and provide an overview of Arctic Wolf. Approximately 30 minutes.

  • Technical assessment: A recruiter sends you a link to a straightforward technical assessment that is relevant to the role you are applying for. Approximately 1 hour.

  • Face-to-face interviews: Several team members conduct two interviews to learn more about you and provide more information about your potential role and team. Be prepared to collaborate on a technical problem and talk more about past projects and your career goals. Approximately 1 hour per interview.
