Archer is an aerospace company based in San Jose, California building an all-electric vertical takeoff and landing aircraft with a mission to advance the benefits of sustainable air mobility. We are designing, manufacturing, and operating an all-electric aircraft that can carry four passengers for 60 miles at speeds of up to 150 mph while producing minimal noise.

What You’ll Do

  • Lead electrical and software integration of Archer’s Battery Management System (BMS), an integral part of the energy storage system (ESS) powering Archer’s FAA type certified eVTOL airtaxi
  • Bring-up battery systems from prototype bucks to mass production
  • Test and troubleshoot electrical and software interfaces, providing direct feedback to part owners
  • Work with the ESS team to ensure functional and performance requirements are met
  • Work with Avionics, GNC, and Software teams to ensure interface requirements are met
  • Specify test milestones and create test plans to support integration of the ESS into the aircraft
  • Specify test resources and equipment necessary to perform internal testing

What You Need

  • BS or MS degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or a related field
  • 5+ years of experience in a related field
  • Demonstrated experience in developing product from start to finish
  • Knowledge of high voltage circuit protection, insulation standards, and safety regulations
  • Experience with industry standard communication protocols (RS-422/485, CAN, Ethernet, SPI)
  • Experience with both digital and analog signals
  • Familiarity with CPLD, FPGA, and microcontroller operation
  • Knowledge of lithium-ion batteries, DC fast chargers, electric motors, and DCDC converters
  • Able to troubleshoot circuit diagrams, hardware, and software and propose solutions to root cause issues
  • Able to use variety of mechanical (crimping, soldering, connector systems) and electrical (DMM, hipot, isolation tester, network analyzer) tools
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills

Bonus Qualifications

  • Experience with high voltage battery systems
  • Experience with new product development in regulated industries (e.g., aviation, medical devices)
  • Knowledge of FAA aircraft certification requirements for Part 23 aircraft
  • Experience with DO-160, DO-178C, and DO-254 standards
  • Experience with ARP4754 development process
  • Experience with ISO 26262, ISO 15118, SAE J1772 standards

We drive a pay-for-performance culture and reward performance that supports the Company’s business strategy. For this position we are targeting a base pay between $148,000 - $185,000. Actual compensation offered will be determined by factors such as job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
