Who we are: 

Archer is an aerospace company based in Palo Alto, California building an all-electric vertical takeoff and landing aircraft with a mission to advance the benefits of sustainable air mobility. We are designing, manufacturing, and operating an all-electric aircraft that can carry four passengers for 60 miles at speeds of up to 150 mph while producing minimal noise.

What you’ll do:

  • Support and manage the flight physics organization that encompasses the guidance, navigation & control (GNC), aerodynamics, loads, and aeroacoustics teams
  • Help recruit and build out flight physics organization to support certification of the Archer production eVTOL
  • Ensure that all engineering processes and standards are followed by your team
  • Provide technical leadership to the flight physics organization
  • Work with our certification and systems engineering teams to negotiate regulatory requirements and their associated means of compliance in domains under your purview
  • Support your team leads with strategic planning, scheduling, budgeting, and overall project management
  • Participate in design reviews 

What you need:

  • 15+ years of experience in working the flight physics domain
  • 5+ years of managerial and technical leadership experience
  • BS, MS, or PhD in Aerospace Engineering or a related field
  • Part of aircraft or rotorcraft development programs through the entire lifecycle including design, development, and certification (Part 23, 25, 27, or 29)
  • Broad expertise across all domains of flight physics (aerodynamics, aeroelastics, aeroacoustics, loads, performance, GNC, etc.)
  • Conceptual and preliminary design experience on small aircraft, rotorcraft, and/or eVTOL vehicles
  • Strong technical, written, and verbal communication skills
  • Experience managing external contractors or suppliers
  • Experience in a fast-paced design environment

Bonus Qualifications:

  • eVTOL design experience up through flight testing of full-scale prototypes
  • Experience modeling eVTOL and/or multirotor vehicles
  • Experience with MDO methods applied to aircraft sizing and design
  • Experience with DO-178C software development
  • Experience with DO-331 for model based development
  • Familiarity with rotorcraft aeromechanics simulation software
  • Experience with wind tunnel testing
