Who we are: 

Archer is an aerospace company based in Palo Alto, California building an all-electric vertical takeoff and landing aircraft with a mission to advance the benefits of sustainable air mobility. We are designing, manufacturing, and operating an all-electric aircraft that can carry four passengers for 60 miles at speeds of up to 150 mph while producing minimal noise.

What you’ll do:

  • Support aircraft design process through all phases from conceptual and preliminary aerodynamic design analyses to integration, test activities, and certification
  • Define objectives, plan, and execute aerodynamic testing, including, but not limited to wind tunnel testing, propeller testing, aeroacoustic testing, flight testing, and vibration/modal testing
  • Coordinate the design and fabrication of wind tunnel models and other test articles
  • Estimate loads for test article sizing and design
  • Work with Archer engineers, external suppliers, wind tunnel model makers, and fabricators to create, assemble, instrument, and conduct tests
  • Select test instrumentation and build data acquisition systems
  • Process experimental data, document results, and compare with predictions

What you need:

  • 5+ years of experience in wind tunnel testing of airplanes and/or rotorcraft
  • BS / MS / PhD in Aerospace Engineering or a related field
  • Experience in wind tunnel model design, including instrumentation selection
  • Proficiency in CAD modeling (NX, Solidworks) and mechanical design
  • Excellent knowledge of aerodynamics/wind tunnel experimental methods
  • Knowledge of and experience in data processing, reduction, and analysis methods
  • Experience setting up data acquisition systems (NI, UEIPAC, B&K)
  • Strong understanding of fixed-wing and rotorcraft aerodynamics
  • Experience with aero low-/mid-/high-fidelity simulation tools for loads calculations
  • Excellent work planning and issue resolution skills
  • Strong technical, written, and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work in groups and individually
  • Experience in a fast-paced design environment

Bonus Qualifications:

  • Experience with wind tunnel testing of powered models and/or rotors
  • Experience with wind tunnel testing of static/performance models
  • Experience with wind tunnel testing of airfoil sections
  • Experience with test stand rotor setup and testing, including instrumentation, data acquisition and processing
  • Experience setting up and operating acoustic tests
  • Aero/performance flight test experience
