Who we are: 

Archer is an aerospace company based in Palo Alto, California building an all-electric vertical takeoff and landing aircraft with a mission to advance the benefits of sustainable air mobility. We are designing, manufacturing, and operating an all-electric aircraft that can carry four passengers for 60 miles at speeds of up to 150 mph while producing minimal noise.

What you’ll do:

  • Design, procure components for, and integrate a modular real-time flight simulator to study cockpit design and piloted handling qualities of novel electric VTOL aircraft
  • Define and implement various pilot inceptor interfaces
  • Develop and refine models to simulate physics, sensors, actuators, and digital systems
  • Work closely with Avionics and other GNC engineers to resolve simulation and flight software problems
  • Define the long-term simulator strategy for certification and pilot training
  • Contribute to GNC system design and verification testing as a member of the GNC team
  • Work closely with test pilots to integrate feedback and continually improve the piloting experience 

What you need:

  • Experience building, debugging, and maintaining flight simulation systems
  • Familiarity with fly-by-wire flight control systems
  • Understanding of flight dynamics of aircraft and/or rotorcraft
  • Experience modeling physical aerospace systems
  • Proficiency in MATLAB & Simulink
  • Deep understanding of real-time systems
  • Familiarity with flight simulator design and performance standards

Bonus Qualifications: 

  • Proficiency in C++ or Python
  • Experience with COTS flight simulator software (X-Plane, MSFS, FlightGear, etc.)
  • Familiarity with aircraft or rotorcraft handling qualities criteria
  • Understanding of aviation human factors
  • Experience developing or testing fly-by-wire flight control systems
  • Experience with pilot inceptors, haptic, aural and visual pilot cueing
  • Familiarity with 14 CFR Part 60 Flight Simulation Training Devices
  • Knowledge of system identification techniques
