Archer is an aerospace company based in Palo Alto, California building an all-electric vertical takeoff and landing aircraft with a mission to advance the benefits of sustainable air mobility. We are designing, manufacturing, and operating an all-electric aircraft that can carry four passengers for 60 miles at speeds of up to 150 mph while producing minimal noise.

What you’ll do:

  • Support vehicle aerodynamic design through all phases of the project, from conceptual design to certification
  • Develop and maintain high-fidelity models of the vehicle
  • Perform inviscid and viscous aerodynamic simulations of the vehicle using CFD tools
  • Design and optimize vehicle components to minimize drag and improve performance
  • Develop aerodynamic databases for use in 6 degree-of-freedom simulation models
  • Correlate and validate CFD simulation results with lower-fidelity simulations, flight tests data, and wind tunnel experiments

What you need:

  • 5+ years of experience with BS, or 3+ years of experience with MS, or 1+ years of experience with PhD performing CFD analyses of tiltrotors and/or eVTOL vehicles
  • BS / MS / PhD in Aeronautics Engineering or related fields
  • Strong understanding of fixed-wing and rotorcraft aerodynamics
  • Strong theoretical background in fluid mechanics and CFD
  • Experience in modeling, turbulence, boundary layer transition, unsteady aerodynamics, and interactional aerodynamics
  • Experience with RANS, DES, LES
  • Experience with NASA Overflow and Fun3D CFD software
  • Proficiency in meshing 3D surface & volume meshing utilizing: structured overset meshes and/or unstructured tetrahedral/hexahedral meshes. Experience using NASA's Chimera grid tools package preferred
  • Experience with utilizing 3D CAD modeling (NX, Solidworks) and CAD cleanup software (ANSA) desired
  • Proficiency in Python and/or Matlab scripting. Experience in coding in Fortran is a plus
  • Familiarity with software development best practices and version control
  • Good knowledge of high-performance computing hardware and software
  • Strong technical, written, and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work in groups and individually
  • Experience in a fast-paced design environment

Bonus Qualifications:

  • Professional experience in running CFD simulations in a production environment
  • Familiarity with NASA Cart3D software
  • Familiarity with Lattice Boltzmann solvers such as PowerFLOW
  • Familiarity with PointWise or Ansys ICEMCFD meshing tools
  • Experience performing thermal flow analysis
  • Experience performing acoustic analysis
  • Experience with surface parametrization and aerodynamic shape optimization
  • Familiarity with cloud computing platforms
  • Familiarity with aircraft and rotorcraft certification standards (14 CFR Part 23, 25 and 27)
