Who we are: 

Archer is an aerospace company based in Palo Alto, California building an all-electric vertical takeoff and landing aircraft with a mission to advance the benefits of sustainable air mobility. We are designing, manufacturing, and operating an all-electric aircraft that can carry four passengers for 60 miles at speeds of up to 150 mph while producing minimal noise.

What you’ll do:

  • Support vehicle aerodynamic and acoustic design through all phases of the project, from conceptual design to certification
  • Build acoustic models of various fidelity to analyze vehicle noise sources
  • Contribute to the development of Archer in-house aero-acoustic toolchain
  • Develop acoustic databases to inform vehicle sizing and design
  • Validate through experiments (test stands, flight tests, wind tunnel measurements) vehicle acoustic models and databases
  • Provide technical guidance to the rest of the engineering team regarding noise impact

What you need:

  • 3+ years of experience with BS, or 1+ years of experience with MS performing acoustic analysis of rotorcraft. Experience with tiltrotor or eVTOL programs preferred
  • BS / MS in Acoustics, Acoustic Engineering or related field
  • Strong understanding of fixed-wing and rotorcraft aerodynamics
  • Deep understanding of rotorcraft acoustics and noise sources
  • Experience modeling fixed-wing and/or rotorcraft aerodynamics using potential flow, free wake, and particle wake solvers
  • Experience using PSU-WOPWOP, ANOPP2, AAM by VOLPE (or similar aeroacoustic prediction tools)
  • Proficiency in Python and/or Matlab scripting. Experience in coding in Fortran is a plus
  • Familiarity with software development best practices and version control
  • Excellent hearing
  • Strong technical, written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work in groups and individually
  • Experience in a fast-paced design environment

Bonus Qualifications:

  • Experience setting up and operating acoustic tests
  • Experience with measuring noise in diffuse fields
  • Familiarity with Brüel & Kjær Sound & Vibration hardware and software (PULSE)
  • Experience certifying aircraft for noise (14 CFR Part 36 or analogous method)
  • Familiarity with Lattice Boltzmann solvers such as PowerFLOW
  • Experience running NASA Overflow and/or Fun3D CFD software
  • Familiarity with state-of-the-art surrogate modeling techniques
  • Familiarity with high-performance computing hardware and software
