Archer is an aerospace company based in Palo Alto, California building an all-electric vertical takeoff and landing aircraft with a mission to advance the benefits of sustainable air mobility. We are designing, manufacturing, and operating an all-electric aircraft that can carry four passengers for 60 miles at speeds of up to 150 mph while producing minimal noise.

What you’ll do:

  • Support vehicle design through all phases of the project, from conceptual design to certification
  • Define and document vehicle design load cases per FAA certification requirements
  • Collaborate with FAA for novel load conditions and analytical approaches
  • Develop and maintain loads certification-related documentation
  • Estimate external loads by performing analyses using Archer in-house aerodynamic tools
  • Build loads databases for airframe structure design and aeroelastic analysis
  • Develop test plans and collaborate with Structure and Hardware teams to gather experimental data to validate loads and correlate to models
  • Support aeroelastic analysis of the vehicle (flutter and whirl flutter)

What you need:

  • 4+ years of experience with BS, or 2+ years of experience with MS performing loads analysis for fixed-wing vehicles and/or rotorcraft
  • BS / MS in Aerospace Engineering or related fields
  • Strong mathematical background with a deep understanding of fixed-wing and rotorcraft aerodynamics, structures, flight dynamics, and vehicle performance
  • Experience with static and dynamic loads derivation for both fixed-wing vehicles and/or rotorcraft. Experience with eVTOL vehicles is a plus
  • Experience with XFoil, AVL, ASWing and similar low-fidelity tools for aero-structural analysis
  • Experience with mid-fidelity aero simulation tools, including potential flow, free wake, and particle wake solvers
  • Proficiency in Python and/or Matlab scripting. Working knowledge of Excel
  • Familiarity with software development best practices and version control
  • Strong technical, written, and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work in groups and individually
  • Experience in a fast-paced design environment

Bonus Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with aircraft and rotorcraft certification standards (14 CFR Part 23, 25 and 27)
  • Prior experience working on aerospace certification program, from concept through V&V and certification
  • Experience in developing loads for eVTOL vehicles, including loads for airframe components, tilting mechanisms, rotor blades, as well as variable pitch mechanisms
  • Experience with structural dynamics, rotor dynamics, and vibratory loads
  • Working experience with one or more commercial or NASA CFD analysis tools
  • Working knowledge of structural analysis and test, including a fundamental understanding of strength, stability and fatigue failure mechanisms
  • Familiarity with FE models development, refinement, validation, as well as correlation with tests results. Experience with NASTRAN or similar structural solvers
  • Experience in coding in Fortran
