You will join a team developing state-of-the-art general-purpose robots designed to operate in human spaces and with human tools. It is designed to work alongside humans, mobilize to human spaces, and manipulate the world around it.

JOB SUMMARY 

Apptronik Is looking for a Senior Mechanical Engineer to lead the design of new robotic systems with a focus on Design for Manufacturing, Quality, Sourcing, Service and Cost. This will be a hands-on role that works at the interface of engineering and manufacturing. You need to have an extensive background and education in engineering as well as experience in assembly and manufacturing of complex electro-mechanical systems. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES or KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES 

  • Lead the initiative on Design for Manufacturing, quality, sourcing, servicing, and costing principles with respect to:
  • Reduce product part count and/or BOM cost
  • Identify and redesign machined (CNC) parts into single cast + post-processed part
  • Work w/ plastic manufacturing to create custom injection molded parts
  • Redesign product to reduce qty of service/wear items and made them more serviceable/etc.
  • Conduct manufacturing readiness assessments: review engineering drawings and technical documentation to ensure all requirements are met before transitioning to our technical assembly team and supply chain team.
  • Oversee and facilitate the transition of new products and processes from engineering to manufacturing and supply chain 

SKILLS AND REQUIREMENTS 

  • This role requires someone capable of "rolling up the sleeves,” as needed, to play a lead role in developing, trialing, and refining assemble processes - mechanical expertise and intuition are required.    
  • Current technical skills in electro-mechanical manufacturing environment   
  • Experience in DFX - (manufacturing, quality, sourcing, service and cost)   
  • Experience with FMEA, DOE, and continual process improvement   
  • 3D CAD experience   
  • Excellent problem solving and project management skills   
  • Ability to work well in fast-paced, dynamic environment   
  • Great with computers and software in general, we use a lot of SAAS tools and cloud-based programs are evolving daily.  Implementing software solutions to streamline operations is a cornerstone responsibility.    
  • Excellent people person. This job requires working with a lot of people from various departments.   You must enjoy working with people and people must enjoy working with you.   
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.  You will be engaging constantly with internal team members, customers, vendors, etc. You will be an ambassador for Apptronik in many ways.   
  • Strong problem-solving and critical-thinking skills and the ability to foster teamwork 

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE 

  • B.S in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering or equivalent  
  • 8+ years of experience in Manufacturing Engineering or New Product Introduction (prototype to volume ramp-up)
  • Robotics or Automation experience preferred   
  • Any sort of fabrication ability (CNC/manual machining, welding, laser cutting, additive manufacturing, etc.)    
  • Demonstrated design work and project portfolios demonstrating designs   
  • Industry standard certifications in DF preferred
  • Prior project management experience including ownership of schedule and budget
