Who Is AppSumo
AppSumo was started in 2011 by serial online entrepreneur Noah Kagan. The idea was simple: the tools you need to run your business shouldn’t put you out of business. Today, the AppSumo team is home to some of the best talent from Facebook, Microsoft, Bloomberg, to name a few. We’re always looking for the best and brightest to join our team.
To date, we’ve partnered with over 1,000 startups to bring our community the absolute best deals on software. These startups have gone on to become household names in software, we’re talking companies like Evernote, Dropbox, and Mailchimp. With hundreds of successful product launches and over a million entrepreneurs served, we’re looking to take AppSumo to the next level.
That’s where you, the Recruiting Lead / Talent Operations Specialist comes in.
About This Role
This is a full lifecycle role where you would own the entire recruitment process (sourcing, screening, interviewing, tracking, making offers, onboarding, and initial training). This means you get to manage and streamline our current recruitment processes in addition to finding new and creative ways to recruit high caliber talent for AppSumo.
If you’re an adaptable people-person with a thirst for success, then this role is for you. It’s designed for someone that is excited by a fast-paced, startup environment with continuous opportunities for innovation. It will be hard work at times, but you’ll also get to goof off a lot with some hilarious people and eat your weight in tacos. Winning!
You’ll ensure our company attracts, hires, and retains the best employees while growing a strong talent pipeline, collaborating with our hiring managers, and steering the recruitment process. On the day to day, you’ll be using Greenhouse, Hunter.io, LinkedIn, AngelList, and Google Suite. In the first three months of this role, success means you will have met with each team to determine possible hiring needs throughout the year, prioritized job openings, and created a hiring roadmap for proactively finding top notch talent. Ideally, you will have opened and successfully closed 1-3 roles in your first quarter.
A day in the life would include sourcing and attracting candidates, conducting phone and video interviews, following up with candidates regarding next steps, meeting with hiring managers, extending offers, and onboarding new hires. You will be helping hire for positions across the entire company: Software Engineers, Account Managers, Customer Support Gurus, Product Managers, UX Designers, and more.
This role is responsible for blueprinting and implementing the overall recruitment strategy. So you’ll need to be not only a recruiter that is capable of coordinating multiple openings but also a strategic planner that has the confidence and technical expertise to shape our hiring process.
We are looking for someone who has a great attitude. Your teammates like sharing a topo chico (or a spicy mezcal-rita!) with you. You’re kinda a networking diva. You’re cool with getting on the phone and chatting people up (okay yeah, it’s 2020, but you're old school and know how to get a candidate’s attention). You’re super agile on a computer and have a better than basic understanding of the SaaS world. You understand and use traditional sourcing avenues, but you prefer to get creative.
To summarize, we’re looking for a fun, experienced, and resourceful recruiter dedicated to connecting the dots and hiring the best people. This is a unique role that requires organization, time management, and strong communication skills. Our ideal candidate has a minimum of 2 years experience with full lifecycle recruiting. Experience with sourcing or recruiting tech talent is a must. If you have experience as a technical recruiter for startups in the SaaS space, we’ll definitely want to talk to you.
Why You’ll Love it
As the sole recruiter for AppSumo, you’ll get to touch every aspect of the recruiting process. From creating job descriptions and sourcing passive talent to closing offers and onboarding, you will handle the communications, logistics, and execution of our overall recruitment strategy. You will roll with a fast-paced, high-growth company. Not everything is written in stone but you’ll appreciate that because it means you can try new things.
If you’re a Type-A self-starter who loves to flex your people and organization muscles at the same time, you’re going to crush this.
Why You May Not Like It
You must have impeccable written and oral communication skills. You can write interesting job descriptions and compelling emails in your sleep--really, this job requires considerable writing and candidates can tell when you’re sending a canned email. You’ll spend a lot of time speaking with potential hires whether it’s via phone screen, video chat, or on-site interview. If you get burned out from interacting with new people, this position probably won’t bring you joy.
You have excellent organizational skills. Following up is your second favorite activity after starting a good conversation. Working on multiple projects at once is your jam.
Lastly, you’ll be the keeper of company culture. You know a good fit when you meet him or her. If you’re not comfortable with taking the lead when it comes to all things recruiting, this role may not be for you.
Pay & Benefits
We provide a competitive compensation package. In addition, we offer paid lunches every day, a stocked fridge, any snacks you want, and two all-expenses paid company trips with the team. (You can check them out here.) You’ll be equipped with a brand-new computer, monitor, standing desk and any other gear you need to feel productive. Not to mention, we also have in-office massages weekly. Oh, and you can bring your dog to work. We love your dog :)
At AppSumo, we don’t believe in benchwarmers or clockwatchers: we treat all of our teammates like adults and trust that when you have something to do, you’ll get it done. If you need to run an errand, hit the gym, or meet a friend for lunch you’re encouraged to do so. You can work from home as often as you need to, and you’ll have unlimited vacation days to go on adventures. (Everyone says it, but we mean it: Take as much time as you want.)
We’re committed to creating a diverse, supportive, and collaborative working environment - every person we bring onto the team helps cultivate a culture that we’re proud of.
Feeling up to the task? Let’s do this :)
