Who Is AppSumo
AppSumo was started in 2011 by serial online entrepreneur Noah Kagan. The idea was simple: the tools you need to run your business shouldn’t put you out of business. Today, the AppSumo team is home to some of the best talent from Facebook, Microsoft, Bloomberg, to name a few. We’re always looking for the best and brightest to join our team.
To date, we’ve partnered with over 1,000 startups to bring our community the absolute best deals on software. These startups have gone on to become household names in software, we’re talking companies like Evernote, Dropbox, and Mailchimp. With hundreds of successful product launches and over a million entrepreneurs served, we’re looking to take AppSumo to the next level.
That’s where you, the UI/UX Product Designer comes in.
About This Role
This role is about creating and leading the designs for the user experience for our Sumo-lings. In this role, you’ll combine UX thinking with design execution to produce simple, elegant, and intuitive user interfaces.
If can break down complex user stories and actions into minimalistic designs that are pleasing to the eye, we want to get to know you.
You’ll be working alongside our engineering, customer support, and sales teams to improve our user experience across all of our products. On the day to day, you’ll be using Sketch, InVision, Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, Jurn, or a tool of your choice. In the first three months of this role, success means designing new features, flows and products from the ground up, working with the team to run A/B tests to optimize conversion, and building out our design processes.
A day in the life would include taking conducting usability testing, and designing sitemaps, prototypes, and wireframes. At a basic level, the UI/UX Product Designer will be responsible for designing interface elements, navigation components, and informational items (think buttons and dropdown lists, search fields, tags, user response messages, and progress bars.
This is a unique role that requires creativity, attention to detail, organization, and adaptability. Our ideal candidate has at least 3-5 years in UI/UX design, specifically geared towards web applications, ecommerce products and/or SaaS.
Why You’ll Love it
You’ll create and be the champion of our brand guidelines. You’ll produce high quality UX design solutions through wireframes, visual and graphic designs, flow diagrams, storyboards, site maps, and prototypes.
If you have a user-centric mindset with a passion for design-thinking, then this role is for you. It’s designed for someone that is excited by applying interaction design principles in a fast-paced, data-driven environment with continuous opportunities for innovation.
Why You May Not Like It
You’ll be responsible for creating new UI elements such as CTAs, banners, page layouts, page designs, page flows, and target links for landing pages. You’ll help us to become more user friendly by removing elements, not just adding them. You’ll collect feedback through surveys and other means then utilize that feedback to improve the user experience.
If you don’t love tweaking designs to optimize the user experience, this role may not be for you. You must also be detail-oriented, highly organized, and a self-starter.
Pay & Benefits
We provide a competitive compensation package. In addition, we offer paid lunches every day, a stocked fridge, any snacks you want, and two all-expenses paid company trips with the team. (You can check them out here.) You’ll be equipped with a brand-new computer, monitor, standing desk and any other gear you need to feel productive. Not to mention, we also have in-office massages weekly. Oh, and you can bring your dog to work. We love your dog :)
At AppSumo, we don’t believe in benchwarmers or clockwatchers: we treat all of our teammates like adults and trust that when you have something to do, you’ll get it done. If you need to run an errand, hit the gym, or meet a friend for lunch you’re encouraged to do so. You can work from home as often as you need to, and you’ll have unlimited vacation days to go on adventures. (Everyone says it, but we mean it: Take as much time as you want.)
We’re committed to creating a diverse, supportive, and collaborative working environment - every person we bring onto the team helps cultivate a culture that we’re proud of.
Feeling up to the task? Let’s do this :)
