About You

The Network Engineer configures, tests, installs, documents, and troubleshoots network solutions in a Service Provider environment. The Network Engineer is required to be an active participant in the trouble ticketing system for multiple datacenters across the globe. 

The Network Engineer’s responsibilities include troubleshooting infrastructure / datacenter related issues.  This will require deep technical expertise with NOC / datacenter best practices, routing and switching, transport issues, working with equipment vendors, customers, and partners. Must be able to converse talk technically and non-technically depending on the situation.

The NOC is an integral part of AppDirect 24x7x365 operational environment. This position may require occasional shift rotation to cover holidays, weekends, and other normal scheduling requirements as needed to support the business. Flexibility to work any shift as needed is required.

What you’ll do and how you’ll have an impact

  • Local and/or remote configuration of WAN equipment, security devices and wireless infrastructures (access points)
  • Coordination, guidance, and phone support of customers, vendors, carriers, datacenter engineers who will be on-site or remote performing the hands-on work (e.g., wiring, racking, equipment relocation, troubleshooting etc.)
  • Participate on incident command bridges, hypercare, and major incidents when required
  • Understand and use network monitoring tools such as Logic Monitor to assist in troubleshooting or analyzing network issues and performance
  • Perform effective ticket management including but not limited to queue management, timely ticket documentation, proper hand-off to other analysts, teams, 3rd parties, etc., communications to customers, ticket resolution
  • Adhere to established Service Level Objectives and/or Service Level Agreements
  • Work both autonomously and also as part of a team, assisting, when necessary, on identifying and diagnosing issues
  • Network Operations and MSP best practices

 

What we’re looking for

  • Minimum of 2 years of practical WAN/LAN experience and must be extremely well versed in TCP/IP, networking standards, networking principles and the best practices of network design.
  • Must have experience and expertise with routing concepts and protocols and troubleshooting network routing and interconnection issues.
  • Must be knowledgeable in NAT, access-lists, policy-based mapping, traffic shaping, and priority queuing.
  • Knowledge and experience of service provider equipment including routers, firewalls, switches and load balancers from various vendors (Cisco, Juniper, Vyatta, Dell, Cumulus, Fortigate, Palo, and Ciena).
  • Ability to support remote installations: Rack and stack, ability to visualize systems and environments, remotely access, converse with on-site technicians and test/verify pre-defined operational success criteria.
  • Practical experience with DNS/DHCP, VXLAN, VLANs, InterVLAN routing infrastructures.
  • Extensive knowledge of TCP/IP, network/transport protocols and standard application layer protocols.
  • Must be able to recognize faults in design, work with Systems Engineers and other Network Engineers to overcome faults and be able to document issues and explain solutions
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills to collaborate with internal and external customers
  • Comprehension of technical diagrams
  • Excellent documentation, strong process improvement and customer focused skills.
  • Ability to stringently follow a scripted maintenance process, replace faulty servers, routers, switches, equipment firmware and software upgrades
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related discipline is preferred and relevant technical certifications a plus i.e., CCNA, CCNP, Network+, etc.
